Top Health Benefits of Playing Badminton!

Badminton

Badminton has been one sport that I have been fond of since my childhood days. Still, remember when we didn’t have TV or mobile phones to keep us busy, we indulged in a lot of playing. After school and study hours, we looked forward to going out in the playgrounds or even streets to play badminton with friends.

Badminton for me is a great way to spend time with my son

And now even with changing times, this is one sport that I still regularly indulge in and my teenage son makes sure we play it as a routine. More so during these days of quarantine, the physical activities were a bit reduced and thus spending more time playing badminton was definitely a great choice for both me and my son, to keep ourselves active and fit. We spend about 1-2 hours daily, playing, and this also allows us to spend a good time together, which as a parent I feel is just wonderful. We end up laughing a lot together, have some fun moments in between and of course there is a lot of physical activity too and thus playing badminton becomes quite a wholesome experience for us.

Badminton for health

Now coming to the health benefits of playing badminton, there are many. Playing badminton for an hour helps you burn approx 450 calories and that’s a great alternative to other cross-training exercises. This kind of overall cardiovascular activity can keep you in great shape if taken up on a regular basis.

The top benefits include:

  • Overall physical fitness and body toning
  • Muscle endurance and strengthening
  • Weightloss
  • Increased flexibility
  • Improved lung and heart functioning
  • Improves sleep
  • Better reflexes and motor coordination
  • Enhanced concentration and focus

Badminton in times of COVID19

Playing badminton is certainly a great way to a healthy and fit lifestyle and as per the need of current times, it’s also a game which encourages social distancing by default. You don’t have to play close to your opponent, you have a good distance between you and neither you have to touch each other. To ensure more safety, you can wear thin gloves and play so that you don’t touch the common shuttlecock with hands.
