Her Resurrection- Book Review

Her Resurrection- Book Review

her-resurrection-cover

The book has been very aptly dedicated to Jyoti Singh and all the innumerable victims of sexual violence.
It takes you through the tragic journey of Maya, the protagonist of this highly moving and poignant tale.
The author has beautifully captured the ethos and pain of Maya tracing her journey from a young eight year child,a burden,as referred to by her father. From child sex abuse to the rape of a teenaged Maya. The hatred and ridicule of the Society which still considers women as the weaker sex to be lorded over and abused by the so called superior species of man, this book discovers many shades of her persona, beautifully captured in words.
The centre of her strength through these early disasters in life of Maya is her mother who installs a sense of purpose in her.
Maya from a remote village who despite all opposition sets out to realise her dream of education.
The journey takes her to Mumbai where she is forced into prostitution and her subsequent getaway from a brothel to further deceit and abuse at the hands of men to her eventually overcoming her utmost desire to kill herself and redeem and reclaim her dignity form the crux of this moving story. The book literally showcases the cruelty that our society has to offer especially when it come stop rape victims and women involved in flesh trade. But it also shows the power and strengths that every woman possesses and the fact that she can overcome any challenges life throws at her and emerge as true winners.
A very beautifully penned story capturing the pain, the grief and the undying underlying grit of Maya. Its a tale of survival and reclamation of one’s own identity.
A must read.

Sunday Brunch @Blooms, Eros Hotel

Sunday is always the most sought after day of the week, one either wants to relax completely or go out and have some fun, but doing something special is indeed a part of Sunday. Out of all the things one may plan whether to stay at home or go out, food is I guess the biggest discussion point and with me its no different. Last Sunday I was fortunate to have been invited for reviewing the Sunday Brunch at Blooms, Eros Hotel, Nehru Place and I really can’t explain in words what fun it was. Blooms organizes Sunday brunches every weekend, but the last Sunday of every month is the most special one, as its always done centered around a theme. When I visited, the theme was Monsoon Magic, the weather was just perfect to justify the theme and yes the ambience and the food, both were magical.

The magic began right at the entrance as I eyed the lavish spread of desserts. It was difficult to resist the temptation of not beginning the brunch with desserts, but nevertheless, I started at them for a long time and captured them in my camera at least.

The ambience of blooms is very comfortable and relaxing and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Some special elements were added in the decoration to compliment the monsoon theme. There were umbrellas, paper boats and even the staff was wearing raincoats. It all looked very very cute and interesting.

The menu was elaborate; there was a lavish buffet spread inside along with a lot of live counters that were placed outdoors. Just taking a stroll around and looking at all that yummy food made me hungry, and I can feel the hunger pangs even now as I write this review.

LIVE STATIONS:

Thela

There was a thela that served assorted pakodas, now monsoons are almost incomplete without pakodas and hence it was a sure shot hit amongst the guests An assortment of pakodas were served, paneer, aaloo pyaaz bhajiya, achari green chilli and others. Then there were a variety of Samosas on the thela, Potato & Cashew filled traditional Indian samosa, Chicken Patti samosa, Keema mutter samosa with mint & saunth chutney.

Chole tikki, sizzling stew of Dry peas with spiced potato was also served with tamarind chutney and selection of toppings.

Also I just loved the way the Pakodas were served from an upside down umbrella, it just looked so interesting.

All you want to know about Everest Base Camp and Trekking.. Plan your trip now..!!

Everest: Mount Everest, earth’s highest mountain is located in the Mahalangur mountain range in Nepal and Tibet. Its peak is 8,848 meters (29,029 ft) above the sea level. It was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society upon a recommendation by Andrew Waugh, the British surveyor general in India. It is also known as Sagarmatha in Nepal and in Tibet as Chomolungma. The international border between China and Nepal runs across Everest’s precise summit point. Neighboring tallest mountain peak of Everest includes Lhotse, Nuptse and Changtse.

Conquered Everest
Trekking: Because Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It has attracted considerable attention and climbing attempts. There are mainly two routes for climbing: one approaching the summit from the southeast in Nepal, also known as standard route and the other from north in Tibet. It remained the difficult peak for decades though it was finally known to have been summated by 1953. The climbing pair of New Zealander, Edmund hillary and Tenzing Norway, a Nepali sherpa record first to climb its peak at 11:30 am on 29 May 1953. They climb via south Col Route. After that, expedition era took a rapid pace due to increase in people’s interest to climb Everest.
Early Expedition: Initially in 1921 British reconnaissance Expedition, the northern approach to the mountain was discovered by George Mallory and Guy Bulloct. They climbed the north Col to an altitude of 7,005 meters (22,982 ft). The British returned for a 1922 expedition, George Finch climbed with oxygen for the first time. He reached at an altitude of 8,320 meters (27,300 ft). It was the first time a human reported to climb higher than 8,000 meters. The next expedition took place in 1924. There were two attempts in which first was aborted due to bad weather. The other attempt delivered by Norton and Somerwell. They managed to reach 8,550 meters (28,050 ft). In 1950, Bill Tilman and a small party under took an exploratory expedition to Everest through Nepal along the route which has now become standard route. Before this, all expeditions were taken place from the north of Tibet. The Swiss expedition of 1952, led by Edouard Wgss-Dunant was granted permission to attempt a climb from Nepal. Raymond Lambert and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were able to reach a height of about 8,595 meters (28,199 ft) on the south ridge, setting a new climbing record. Tenzing’s experience was useful when he was hired to be part of the British expedition in 1953.
Conquered Everest: Everest was conquered in 1953 when it was finally summated by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. The next successful ascent was three years later in 1956 by Ernst schmied and Juerj Marmet. This was followed by Dolf Reist and Hans-Rudolf von Gunten on 24 May 1957 and so on. Despite the effort and attention poured into expedition, it was only summated by about 200 people by 1987. Everest showed itself to be the most difficult place for decades, even for serious attempts by expert mountaineers and large national expeditions, until the commercial era picked up in the 1990s. By March 2012, Everest had been climbed 5656 times with 223 deaths. By 2013, the Himalayans database recorded 6871 summits by 4042 different people.

Commercial climbing
Commercial climbing: According to Jon Krakauer, the era of commercialization of Everest started in 1985, when the summit was reached by a guided expedition led by David Breashears that include Richard Bass, a wealthy 55 year old businessman and an amateur mountain climber with only four years climbing experience. By the early 1990s, multiple companies were offering guided tours to the mountain. Rob Hall, one of the mountaineers who died in the 1996 disaster, had successfully guided 39 clients to the summit prior to that incident. By 2016, most guided services cost between 35 to almost 200 thousand dollars. However, the services offered vary widely and its “buyer beware” when doing deal in Nepal. There are “budget” travel agencies which offer logistic support for such trip. However, this is considered difficult and dangerous. Many climbers hire “full service” guide companies, which provide a wide spectrum of services including acquisition of permits, transportation to/from base camp, food, tent, fixed ropes, medical assistance, experienced mountaineer guide and even porter.

once-in-a-lifetime-happens-again

The book is co authored by Mr Ashish Kumar Mall and Ms Lovely Kumari both third year students at KIIT University,Bhubneshwar. While Ashish is pursuing Electronics Engineering Lovely is a Computer Science Engineering student.
The one word the book after reading evokes is Nostalgia.
One can very easily relate to the hero of the book Ashwin and his best friend Ankita.
The book traces the teenhood journey of Ashwin. The adolescent age when one is constantly ready to fall in love at the slightest chance. Each girl who passes your path seems a Princess and the one you happen to get close to a queen.
Those teenhood infatuations, friendship, love, breakups, love lost, new love found makes for an interesting read.
I think most everyone will be able to connect with the situations and lead characters of the book be it Aswin his friend Mitu and the three girls mainly involved Ankita,Bhawana and Ria.
You will find an interesting twist at the end of the book.

Your Neighbourhood Bar Opens in East of Kailash-BarShala

‘In Wine There Is Wisdom, In Beer There Is Freedom, In Water There Is Bacteria’. One cannot agree more with Benjamin Franklin.

But what to do when you are broke like a joke? When it’s that time of the month and the salary cheque looks far-flung? When you want to be a high troller without riding on the luxury roller? What about manhandling those man talks and being in a place, which reeks of nostalgia and smells of home? All in all, the perfect place to finish up a boozy evening in style!

Here comes your panacea for all drinking ills- The BarShala!

barahsla_EOK_facade2

BarShala is India’s fastest growing chain of “friendly neighbourhood drinking resto-bars” in India positioned on the basic premise-“peeney waalon ka paradise” (a paradise for people who enjoy a good drink). Founded by the team at Indospirit, headed by Mr. Sameer Mahandru, the aim is to create the bar-next-door for the entire country.

The Mission – Piyo or Peene Do

Whether it is hanging out with your friends after office hours, or discussing the next game of cricket over a chilled beer, BarShala is the perfect joint for you. The menu is uniquely crafted with Hinglish names of dishes adding quirkiness and making things breezy!(literally).BarShala, as small and powerful as the name suggests, the sting in the tail is having to choose between numerous flavours of rum mixes, Indigenous beers or Vodkas at unbeatable prices. The bar currently lacks the presence of any sorts of cocktails and cocktails in the menu. They as of now have all straight liquor. There’s a character in the décor too, with winks of Indian kitschy graphic and jazzy mosaics. Attracting regulars and interested new faces, the atmosphere is relaxed and intimate.

BarShala has been brought to life by a passionate team of individuals with extensive experience in the F&B industry. The young and energetic team at BarShala has promised to go the extra mile to ensure that one has a crazy time with friends and create some amazing memories. Having opened up their first two outlets in Janakpuri, Karkardooma and lining up the unveiling of East of Kailash, the bar is getting higher every day. The only dream is to see Delhities in BarShala- blurring the line between weekdays and weekends-Rammed and raucous.

menu-page-2

menu-page-1

I recently visited the East of Kailash outlet and it definitely lives upto its name, its just a hangout place where you can go only for drinks and nothing else. It is a BarShala in true sense.  However quirky the names of menu items be, the food is very very basic. Don’t expect too many high fundas, or exotic cuisine here. You will get just the routine snacks, more like ready to eat options in both vegetarian and non vegetarian, but the liquor prices are so cheap that you cannot complain. I tried the Mutton Seekh, Fish Fingers and Chicken Salad, which were just about OK.

[easy-image-collage id=1669]

Also its most apt for youngsters and men interested in drinking, if you are looking at spending some cosy time with your girl friend, this isn’t the place. Neither its apt for families.

The staff definitely needs to be more trained and attentive and hospitality is something they need to work upon.

BarShala is managed by the INDOSPIRIT Group. The INDOSPIRIT Group of companies is a leading bottler, importer, distributor and retailer of alcoholic beverages in North India. The group was founded in 2007, and now has a turnover of 300 Crores.

Ladakh based Drukpa Nuns bike across Nepal and India in 2500 km Cycle Yatra; reach Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Led by His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa, of the Ladakh based Drukpa Order, 500 monks and nuns cycled into India and reached Chandigarh as a part of their 2500 km journey to Hemis Monastery in Ladakh.

The Drukpa Order, which has come to be known for its insistence on gender equality and celebration of diversity regularly organises such events to highlight issues of global significance. The Cycle Yatra, which commenced in Kathmandu (Nepal) on 3rd July 2016 from one of the monasteries of the Drukpa lineage, has become an annual feature of Order’s efforts to promote awareness about the Environmental Crises in the region and inspire collaborative action to resolve it.

The two month long Yatra traverses through some of the most arduous routes in the Himalayan region amidst adverse conditions. From the quake-hit regions in Nepal, to the monsoon hit towns in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Pathankot, Srinagar, Sonmargand Kargil (J&K) – The Yatra will culminate at Hemis Monastery, 45 kilometres from Leh. Where it is scheduled to arrive, prior to Naropa 2016 – a grand spiritual festival that is held once in every 12 years, celebrating the 1000th birth anniversary of the Indian Saint Naropa, patron of the Drukpa Lineage.

“The Himalayas have been the home of the Drukpa Lineage for over 1000 years now. Recently, the region has faced several environmental disasters that caused unwanted &unprecedented loss of life and upset the natural ecosystem. Our aim through this journey is to inspire people to be one with nature instead of being in a constant state of war with it. The Himalayas and the earth were formed millions of years before we were and it is our duty to respect them,” said His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa – the 12threincarnation of the head of the Drukpa Order.

Thuksey Rinpoche

His Holinesshas personally led the Cycle Yatra from Kathmandu and plans to complete 2500 kilometres all the way to Hemis Monastery in Ladakh – shattering the conventional concept of the role of the spiritual Guru.It is through his vision that the number of women being inducted into the Order has increased manifold since his accession. The nuns of the Drukpa Order are instrumental in the activities of the Lineage across the Himalayan Region and are fondly known as the ‘Kung Fu Nuns’ for the role they have played in resolving on ground issues.

For his tireless efforts, His Holiness has been conferred the title of ‘Keeper of the Himalayas’ by the United Nations.

About Drukpa Lineage:

The Drukpa Lineage (the “Dragon Lineage”) is an integral part of Himalayan and Central Asian legacy and culture. Dating back to the Indian scholar-saint Naropa, the Drukpa Lineage is woven into the history of Buddhism the geographic locales of India and Central Asia. It is strategically located along some of the world’s most significant historical trading routes and has over 1000 monasteries in the region. The state of Bhutan, honours the Drukpa Lineage as its state religion.

Make your Rakhi special with Surprise Someone. In

Rakhi is just around the corner and is that time of the year when we want to special things for our brothers and these days’ even brothers look at different things to give back to their sisters.

And this year, I am geared up to make my brothers feel really special with amazing gifts collection from Surprise Someone. They have come up with some really great stuff that makes up for perfect rakhi gift and helps my entire process of gifting much more interesting and innovative.

I normally give chocolates to my brothers in place of Indian sweets and there is a big reason behind it, nah not really big reason, but a genuine one, that I professionally make chocolates and bakery items at home and love giving them something that I have prepared instead of the ready made sweets.

[easy-image-collage id=1611]

As I was surfing through the surprise someone site, I came across some amazing boxes that can beautifully behold my chocolates and also I can personalize them using photographs and messages.

Now just look at this first box that I chose and I tried capturing the exact way I would give it to my brother by putting some chocolates and also a rakhi in it.

IMG_4659

IMG_4661

IMG_4662

IMG_4665

I used all the 4 compartments for filling them up with chocolates of different flavors. The thing that I loved about this box was its multi utility. Once I give the box filled with chocolates, it can later be used for keeping other knick-knacks and come in handy. I mean my brother can later use it in his office for keeping small stationery items or give to his wife at home for keeping jewellery or other stuff. Also the looks of the box are so premium that one would love to keep things in it and flaunt it.

And this second box is so rich and classy in looks that it adds so much value to the chocolates all-together, just by putting my chocolates in this box, they look more appealing and tempting.

IMG_4678

IMG_4680

This box also had a greeting on which one could write a personalised message, but because I was currently using the box only for featuring it to you all, I didn’t want it to become dirty and ended up using that greeting paper as a base to my chocolates. You can use it the way you want. This box also has a photo frame in built and I guess that would allow it to become much more personalised. Just imagine, how sweet it would look if the top of the box has a picture of you and your brother, won’t it look much more personal and emotional?

Here is another option, which I personally loved the most and this can make an ideal gift for the brothers to choose for their sisters. This cute looking hut which has two drawers to keep that nail paints, or jewellery or any other small articles you may think of and this too can be personalized with a photograph put in the photo frame built in the hut itself. This surely can become a piece on the dressing table and get your friends jealous.

[easy-image-collage id=1626]

And the biggest surprise from surprise someone is their reasonable pricing, I mean the boxes are so affordable and will easily help make your gift look much more expensive in its perceived value. Here are some more pics for you to get a glimpse of the collection.

Do check them out and make your rakhi even more special and get in touch with me if you would like to place orders for chocolates and bakery items and do check out more on our Facebook Page and Instagram
