Want To Stand Out? Hair’s How to Do It

For some people, the idea of making themselves stand out is terrifying. These people like to blend in with the crowd, be as unobtrusive as possible, and pass by unnoticed.

You’re not like that though.

You’re the kind of person who has no problem with all eyes being on you; in fact, you like it that way. You’re an expressive and creative person, so of course, you make expressive and creative choices when it comes to your looks. You don’t want to blend in; you want to be the showstopper in every room, wearing your personality on your sleeve — and on your face, body, and hair too.

If the above sounds like you, then you’re in luck. Below, there’s an exploration of three ways you can express yourself through the medium of the hair on your head. The beauty of toying with your hair and trying things out is that it will always grow back, so you can do as you please safe in the knowledge it’s not going to be permanent. Keep that in mind, and read on…

Choose A Creative Dye Job

If you don’t mind playing with the color of your hair to get maximum effect, then why not choose a dye job with a difference? Often done over bleached hair (to get the best color pop,) mermaid hair is increasingly popular. Given how beautiful the result can be, it’s easy to see why too.

If you’d rather stick with just the one color, then why not orange hair? Rather than being a problem to be fixed, orange hair is now gaining its own status as an outlandish, delightful, and absolutely deliberate hair color choice.

Extend, Extend, And Extend!

Long hair is a statement. It’s an inherently feminine statement, and it’s also eye-catching — no matter what your age. However, long hair might be more of a dream than a reality; for some of us, our hair just doesn’t grow long enough or at a quick enough speed to sate your desire for something different. If this is the case for you, then tape in hair extensions might be the answer. With these, you can have a full head of long, flowing hair, without having to wait years to grow it out. Perfect.

Be Brave; Go Short

Short hair can look fantastic, as many celebrities have displayed over the years. However, among the general populace, short hair on women is less often seen. So if you truly want to stand out, then going short could be the most effective way of doing it.

One thing that short hair does, above all other styles, is accentuate your bone structure. For most people, a pixie cut will be extremely flattering. Contrary to popular belief, short hair can also be feminine, as proven by Halle Berry, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, and all the other pixie cut fans in the celebrity world. So why not take your lead from the A list, trim your locks, and enjoy a more noticeable style as a result?

So which of these do you think might tempt you?

Corduroy skirts will be huge this fall!

Fancy making a statement this fall with your outfit? Well, then corduroy skirts are your answer. Corduroy skirts have been in fashion for a very long time. In fact, many retro outfits boasted of skirts in corduroy paired with a frilled top. When it comes to corduroy skirts, Taylor Swift is the real icon. While this singer has been known for her courageous fashion and obsession with chic retro clothing, Taylor Swift was seen many at times in public with outfits of short corduroy skirt.

Beginning in the 20th century, skirts were a huge thing among the working women. It was comfortable to walk in and easy to handle. They also formed the basic outfit for family occasions and more. However as fashion trends waxed and waned, skirts slowly lost their game to the denim that was revolutionizing the industry. Skirts, including that of corduroy, were sidelined to special occasions. But they did have their identity and has been in style in a minimal sense. This fall let us rediscover corduroy skirts and their antique charm, to add to the wardrobe.

Fall being the season will a cool weather, corduroy skirts are perfect for your attire. Comfortable fabric, with its velvety and ridged texture, these will keep your warm without having to cover in multiple layers of clothing. Unlike skirts of other fabric, corduroy ensures that the skirt is firm and steady. Being corduroy, these need to not be iron as well.  Since the fabric is quite heavy, having a fully fledged, a complete pleated skirt can add a lot of weight to your skirt. This is why corduroy skirt comes with fewer pleats or no-pleat designs. In this respect, buttoned down corduroy skirts are a real trend.

How to Wear Them?

Picking the right color is essential when it comes to matching a  skirt and top. As for corduroy skirts, the usual trends are. dark shades paired with a light or pale colored top. However, this doesn’t mean that you should stick to the clichés. Corduroys are brilliant in gray and pastel shades too. If you are a person of retro tastes, a brown corduroy skirts would do you well. Team this up with a beige blouse and you can indulge in your retro-ness.

For short corduroy skirt designs, you can pair it with a full sleeve body- hugging sweater for a trendy look. If you are going for mid length or longer designs, you have a plethora of options. A crop top would pair well with a long corduroy skirt, at the same time, lending a designer look to your outfit.  A shirt tucked in would be another way to make your corduroy skirt outfit splendid!

The Latest Jewelry Trends For 2017

Staying on top of fashion trends is the only way to make sure that you don’t fall out of style. Knowing what’s in and what’s out can help you avoid making any embarrassing fashion faux pa’s but a lot of people forget about the smaller details. Accessories are what make or break an outfit so if you get them wrong you can ruin a perfectly good outfit in seconds. One trend that people often neglect is jewelry. There are some pieces that will always be in style but don’t fall into the trap of thinking that this is true of all of it. Certain things that might have been fashionable last year are completely out by now so you have to be careful. If you aren’t up to date, have a look at these recent jewelry trends.

Rose Gold

Source

Rose gold has been a part of the fashion world for a while but at the moment, the color is very popular when it comes to jewelry. It’s a great way to introduce some pretty pink things into your outfit without going overboard with incredibly bright shades of pink on your clothes that might be a bit too much. It’s also a popular choice for lots of other accessories so match your new rose gold earrings with a phone case or a necklace to top off the look. It’s also becoming a popular choice for wedding rings because it’s more interesting than standard gold.

Bold Necklaces

The past few years have seen a massive focus on smaller, choker style necklaces but that’s starting to change this season. Instead, people are going for much larger, bold necklaces that really make a statement. Thick chains with a large stone on are much more fashionable than a thin, shorter necklace. Anything that is art deco inspired is especially good as this is what most of the people in the industry are choosing.

Large Earrings

Source

The view that bigger is better is not just confined to necklaces, it’s also directing the style of earrings that people are wearing this year. Nobody is wearing small studs at the moment, they’re going for huge earrings instead. Anything that uses interesting shapes and materials is a winner.

Single Earrings

As well as big earrings, people are also deciding to wear just the one. It’s a pretty out there move, but if you choose the right style, it can really work. If you’re going to go for the single earring look, make sure it’s something oversized that makes it clear that it’s a choice. If you wear a single small earring, people will just think one has fallen out.

Minerals

Uncut minerals used to be something that people had as an ornament on the shelf but nowadays they’re being used for jewelry as well. Bold necklaces with large sections of uncut mineral on then are really in style at the moment. Healing crystals have also made a big impact at some fashion shows recently.

Crucifixes

Source

The crucifix is a jewelry item that’s always coming in and out of fashion for both men and women. It hasn’t been in for a few years but now it’s back. The traditional crucifix won’t quite cut it though. Find something a bit bigger with plenty of color on it and you’re sure to impress.

Got a Passion for Fashion? Turn It into a Profession!

Turning their passion into a profession is the dream of many. Unfortunately, however, not enough people attempt such a venture as they choose to, instead, make do with their ‘safe’ job. But where’s the fun, and the passion, in that? Nobody should stand for letting their passion disappear as they settle for a job that doesn’t provoke any sort of feeling within them. And fashionistas certainly shouldn’t stand for it. There are plenty of ways for fashion lovers to forge a career in the fashion industry — read on to find a few of them.

  1. Dress well; dress differently

Both when you’re in the comfort of friends and when you’re in your fashion based job — whether this be an internship, an entry level fashion store job or a position of management in such a store — you need to dress differently. You need to prove to everyone that you are someone who knows how to be different with their dress sense. But you also need to prove yourself as someone who is on trend too. So, why not try tweaking the current trend, whatever that may be, in your own, unique way?

  1. Connect with as many fellow fashionistas as possible

Even in the fashion industry it is a case of who you know rather than what you know. This is unfortunate because, really, it should be the other way around. However, it’s not and the sooner you accept this, the better off you’ll be. And the sooner you begin to make vital fashion connections, the better off you’ll be too. Whether this means schmoozing the boss of your internship or entry level store job, or connecting with fashion designers as you climb higher up the ladder and attend networking events, you must do it. And you must do it even if you are prone to shyness.

  1. Always, always, always aim higher

Whether being the CEO of a fashion company is your life’s goal or not, in order to forge a career in the fashion industry you have to show yourself to be someone that always wants more. And to show you always want more, you should always be searching and applying for higher level jobs. There are a host of careers at Belk that suit this description perfectly. At the moment, the company has vacancies in all sort of high level roles: from Director of Brand Management to Sourcing Associate to Technical Designer. And these are the sorts of roles that you should set your sites on. Well, in any case, what’s the harm in applying?

If you are a lover of fashion and have a real passion for it, what’s stopping you from turning it into a profession? Certainly not advice on how to go about it, that’s for sure, because it’s all up there above. Maybe it’s because you’re scared that being in such close proximity to fashion at all times will force you to hate it? If this is the case, then you should know that the best and most amazing hack that every fashionista should know is that a career in fashion will provide them with on-tap clothing. If that’s not enough to entice you into the industry, then what is?

Amazing Hacks Every Fashionista Needs To Know

If we had to pick out one thing we love about the internet-age in which we live, it would take something super-special to topple our love for hacks. The people of this world just have a brand new way to share their best pieces of genius, their little bits of innovation and their top tips when it comes to navigating life. If we had to narrow this down even further, well, we’d have to incorporate these hacks into our absolute love of all things fashion.

There is just so much that needs fixing on this front. Like when we lose the back of our earrings or spill red wine over our favorite summer dress, or any one of the infinite other surprises that can creep up and wreak absolute havoc on our fashion plans, and maybe prevent us from having to have that wardrobe clear out prematurely. That is where having an arsenal full of practical solutions can be nothing short of a lifesaver. Yup, even the most disastrous and annoying fashion failures and outfit catastrophes can become manageable thanks to the hack-inspired world that we exist within.

Accidents happen, there is nothing you can do to prevent that fact of life from continuing. However, there are some bits of know-how you can swat up on to become the most incredible handywoman of fashion and help your wardrobe to live another day.

Problem No.1 The Stubborn Zipper

There is nothing more frustrating than when we go to pull on that pair of jeans that gives your bottom the most amazing shape, or you grab that cute little bomber jacket you love, only to find out the zipper is stuck. Well, instead of cursing up to the skies and giving up on life, there are a few things you can do. Rubbing Vaseline into the teeth is one. Using a crayon along the teeth is another. While a graphite pencil should also do the trick. A quick rub and your zipper should run as smooth as ever.

Problem No.2 The Soggy Canvas Shoe

Canvas shoes are so in right now. Not only are they cool, they are also cute and pretty and oh so comfortable. Oh. So. Comfortable. Until you walk through a puddle you hadn’t seen because you were texting, or it starts raining unexpectedly. That is when wearing canvas shoes can really, really suck. But there is a way to waterproof them. All you need to do is buy some beeswax, rub it in all over your shoe and then use a hair dryer to help the wax set and create a natural waterproof seal.

Problem No.3 The Ironing A Buttoned Shirt

Ironing in itself isn’t the joy-filled pastime we all hope it will be. It is boring. Not only that it tends to be an art form that we can’t get our heads around no matter how much we do it, especially when it comes to ironing a button-down shirt. Luckily for you, there is a very simple solution to this horrid experience. All you have to do is turn your shirt inside out and, voila, you can now easily glide over the buttons without melting them with your hot iron. Amazing.

Problem No.4 The Lost Earring Back

Okay, I don’t know why we specifically state earring back when losing the actual earring is so much worse. All you remember is, you went out the night before, came back late, fell into bed with your earrings still in because you were absolutely exhausted and woke up only to find them missing in action. Well, your solution lies in a nylon stocking and a vacuum cleaner. Simple put your stocking over the vacuum hose and then going on a retrieval mission. Hopefully your missing earring (and back) will stick to the nylon for you to retrieve and enjoy once more.

Problem No.5 The Deodorant Stain

It is one of those lose-lose situations, isn’t it? Either you don’t wear deodorant, which will mean sweating, which will mean you stain your clothes both visually and in terms of smell, or you wear deodorant and you stain your clothes that way. Obviously, the latter is the better of two evils in that scenario. The good news is there is a very simple way to get rid of this kind of stain and it relies on nothing more than you rubbing your jeans on the stained area. The only thing you want to be a little conscious of is transferring the color of jeans onto the item in question, so just test it on a small patch of the clothing area just to be sure.

Problem No.6 The Red Wine Stain

We’ve all been there. We’ve been at a party or a wedding where there is a free bar and we’ve gotten a little too excited and ended up spilling red wine on that summer dress we’ve been waiting to wear for an absolute age. Well, the best way to solve this issue is to immediately soak some cloth (say, your napkin) with white wine and then gently blot the red wine stain. It is one of those old wives tales that we rarely give credence to but, trust us, it totally works.

Problem No.7 The Fading Black Clothes

It doesn’t matter how many years you’ve been in a relationship with your washing machine for; it still has a way of fading your dark clothes and that is so much more annoying than we can ever fully comprehend. It is also expensive. So to make clothes last longer, it is so important that you learn how to wash your dark clothes properly and that is where turning your clothes inside out can come in handy. You see, the reason your darks fade is that they get hot and then rub on the other clothes. It is that simple. So, turn them inside out and that won’t happen anymore. Simple and incredible.

Problem No.8 The Dirty Suede

Suede is one of those materials that is so nice to wear and look at. Even faux-suede is gorgeous; it instantly makes an outfit look that much more expensive and sophisticated. However, cleaning dirt off your suede isn’t as easy as it should be and we can often end up ruining the suede itself in the process. That’s where bread can be your savior. Simple remove the crust from a slice of bread, leave it to go stale and then gently rub the dirty suede with the edge of the bread. You will see it disappear before your very eyes.

Rocks To Rock At Rock Bottom Prices

Most girls love to adorn their bodies with beautiful stones and precious metals. Jewelry has been part and parcel of many cultures, throughout time. Today, among modern societies and developing places alike, you’ll find this sort of bodily decoration to be extremely popular. In the recent past, these items would be too expensive for most people to own. But, in recent times, they’ve become much cheaper. This means that for those willing to are willing compromise on diamonds or other expensive stones, real bargains can be found. To help you with this, this post will be going through some of the best gems and rocks for visual and wallet appeal.

A lot of people like expensive stones because they have very interesting visual features. For example, light dances within a diamond differently to any other stone. And, this gives it a very unique look. But, a stone’s price doesn’t dictate how special it is. In the case of the Tiger’s Eye, you’ll be surprised to see how beautiful a cheap stone can be. Usually, this rock is a mixture of light and dark shades of grey, in formations which almost look like strands. It looks best with a highly polished finish. And, it can be applied to almost any sort of jewelry to look nice. It’s rare to find such a fascinating stone of these colors.

For some, the Tiger’s Eye may not seem girly enough. And, although it is elegant, it makes sense that it might not be everyone’s thing. A rose quartz is a very different stone to a Tiger’s Eye. This sort of stone is, as its name suggests, pink. These stones grow in crystalline structures, with great detail and precise lines. But, they can also be polished to shine and look smooth. Like a Tiger’s Eye, this sort of stone is great within any sort of jewelry. A local jeweler should be able to help you to find this sort of stone. And, they may even be able to suggest some for you.

(Image Link)

This next rock isn’t actually a rock. Instead, it’s part of a natural process used by oysters and a few other types of mollusk. When a foreign object, like a grain of sand, enters the oyster’s, it has to protect itself against infection or damage. To do this, it creates a smooth shell around the object. And, this is the pearl you wear. These jewels of the ocean have been commonplace in most societies with ties to the sea. And, they can be found in the highest of society out there. The best sort of options for a stone like this are things like handmade pearl earrings or necklaces. A lot of the examples you find from automated factories are made using substandard pearls to lower their price.

Hopefully, this will inspire you to start saving some money on the rocks you wear. A lot of people like to use this sort of accessory to add some color to their outfit. It gives you the chance to make something more interesting. Or, you can use it as an accent to the clothing you already have.

Sort Your Summer Chic Look, Now

Between the rising temperatures outside the house and the increasing need for trendy, beautiful clothes, summer chic styles are becoming ever more popular. Dressing for the office, especially, is becoming a difficult business! You don’t want too many layers, nor do you want too little as the air conditioning in the office is cranked up to counteract the heat from the sun outside. Choosing your daily workwear may get difficult as the warmer months draw in and accessorising your outfits can also be hard as you have to find a good, professional balance!

Revamping your closets with Daisy Dukes and long, flowy boho tops is one thing for casual looks, but how do you accessorize? Your usual neckerchief or patterned stockings won’t have a place in the heat, but boho bracelets and delicate flower garlands for your hair like these ones can step into the spotlight! Summer time is a time for lighter, flowing styles and you have to push your comfort zone to get that summer chic look. So, how can you change your usual dress to match a trend that is so popular?

White. In the heat, wearing light colours is a must. White is one of the purest you can wear and it is so fashionable, especially against a gorgeous summer tan. It looks fresh, clean and can really make accessories with colours and metallic hues stand out. Floaty summer dresses in white are often on the catwalk, and your summer chic look can really pop with white trainers paired against denim shorts. You can’t go wrong with white for your summer wardrobe!

Stripes. Most people would go against stripes for their summer wardrobe, but it’s all about choices. When you have an outfit with vertical stripes, you can accessorize any style of stripes with nautical accessories like these and they look fresh!

Boho. Crop tops and long, flowing skirts are an absolute essential for that boho summer look. Pair these with long chain necklaces and drop earrings for a fashionable look that is on point for the whole summer.

Shoes. Summertime is all about comfort and staying cool, so sandals are in and trainers are out. flat sandals like these can match the colours of your summer accessories, so don’t be afraid to decorate your outfit in any way that can match your shoes!

Bag. While you’re on the subject of accessorizing your outfit, choosing a bag that is lightweight and colourful to reflect the summer. Ditch the backpack and go for a lightweight tote. Again, colour should be bold and reflective of your personality as well as the sunshine outside.

Whether you are thinking about your casual summer look or your work outfit, the key is cool, casual and chic colours and additions to each outfit from head to toe. Caring about how you have dressed is wonderful and you can really show off your style when you go all out this summer time!

Designer Ridhima Bhasin opens her flagship store in South Extension!

Ridhima Bhasin recently hosted the launch of her maiden flagship store at South Extension part one. Bustling with fashion enthusiasts, her spring summer collection was received with a lot of awe. Inspired by iconic shapes of Moroccan architecture, the majestic inverted domes, slender minarets, intricate and spell binding jali windows and moorish lamps. the word Lucidus invokes a feeling of light, brightness and clarity that reflects in the ensemble. The collection encapsulates this feeling and mood well with beautiful circular skirts, slender pants, sheer blouses in ivory, apricot, sage green and vanilla hues.

Delicate thread embroideries with hand crafted tassels and hints of silver and moonlit embellishments amalgamate to create this spring summer collection.

The designs strike the right balance between contemporary and conservative with focus on magical cuts and flattering silhouettes.

Ridhima Bhasin is a young and talented fashion designer best known for her contemporary styling of Indian dresses. Ridhima Bhasin was born and bought up in Delhi, absorbing the diverse art culture, architecture and heritage only to find her falling for fashion designing every single day. She further got inspired by her sister Ritika Bhasin, who owns her very own fashion label. Being a part of her sister’s workshop, understanding fabrics and embellishments finally made her decide she had to pursue fashion as a career. Ridhima attended the London College of Fashion and got specialized with all the technical skills while studying Design and Merchandising there. After her graduation in the summer of 2010 she got back to India and started assisting her sister, Ritika Bhasin’s label. She got a chance to enhance her skills, work ethics and designing skills for 3 years. Finally In 2014, with her passion to bring her contemporary chic designs to the Indian market, she introduced her label ‘Ridhima Bhasin’.

Many bollywood celebrities adorn her designer wear and her collection is also available in international markets like Dubai, Indonesia, London and New York, making her one of the youngest Indian Fashion Designer to be successfully retailing her designer wear worldwide.

For me it was a pleasure meeting her personally and checking her collection out.
