FICCI organised Foodzania, a food service retail conclave, partnered by Foodmaniacs

FICCI organized, the first ever Foodzania, a Food Service Retail Conclave on November 18,2016 at FICCI, Federation House, New Delhi. Invited by Vickrham, owner of Foodmaniacs a food based portal, which happened to be the Online Partner for the event, we felt privileged to be a part of such a prestigious event.

The whole day conclave started with a nice spread of Tea, Coffee and Breakfast for the participants. The Conclave was divided into six sessions each touching a particular aspect of the Food Retail Industry. The first session touched upon the State of the Industry & Food Policy. After the welcome address by Piyush Patodia, Chairman FICCI Task Force, the session was addressed by Sh.Hem Pande, Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food n Public Distribution, (MoCA). He touched briefly on the state of Food Industry and emphasized on the need for the Industry and the Government to work closely for the benefit of the Consumer.img_6230

The session was also addressed by Shri Pawan Aggarwal, CEO, FSSAI, who strongly believed that more n more of eateries of all tiers be recognized by FSSAI so as to be able to educate and monitor even the smaller players there by ensuring safe n hygienic food to reach the consumers.

The session saw a wide range of speakers like Mr Scott S.Sindelar, Minister Counselor for Agricultural Affairs, American Embassy in New Delhi, India. Mr Sunil Kapur, Chairman,K-Hospitality Corp, Mr Rahul Singh, Hon.Secretary, NRAI, Founder & CEO, The Beer Cafe, Mr Henrik Osterstrom, Country Food Manger, IKEA and Mr Amit Lohani, MD, Max Foods and Conveyor, Forum of Indian Food Importers. Each one them spoke about the on growing demand for the Industry to be given its due recognition by the Government to ensure further organized growth in this sector.


Session 2 saw the discussion moving to another very important aspect of the Food Retail Service Industry, the availability of skilled manpower. Rightly titled Skill Development Gaining Critical Importance in F&B Sector-“Elevating Skills”. The session was addressed by Mr. Praveen Roy, Chief Executive Officer, Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council, Mr Chetan Arora, Development Agent and Multi Unit Owner, Subway India, Chef Y B Mathur, Executive Director, Culinary Design & Application Group and Ms Diksha Pandey, Head, Mountain Trail Academy. They emphasized on the need for more training centers for the F& B sector and especially in two or three tier towns n cities to facilitate the young there to pursue their dreams of joining the Food Industry.

Session 3 namely Creating one stop shop-“Making Food in India & Ease of doing Business” was addressed by Mr Atul Chaturvedi, Joint Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy n Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Mr Rajat Wahi, Partner and Head, Consumer Retail and Agri Sectors, KPMG in India, Mr Sumitro Ghosh, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Starbucks India, Mr Unnat Verma, MD Pizza Hut India Subcontinent, Mr Pankaj Chaddah, Co founder, Zomato, Mr Murli Parna, CEO, Sagar Ratna, Chef Sabyasachi Gorai, Celebrity Chef, Entrepreneur, Restaurant Owner and Mr Rakesh Banga, Founder, Farmland Premium Foods LLP. Lots of grievances on part of the Industry were put forward, the main being the License Raj, which surprisingly continues to harass the industry. Multiple government departments issue licenses for the same project often over lapping each other. It was really sad to know that to even start a Restaurant in our Country it needs anywhere between 20 to 30 licenses which may take over a period of six months to a year to acquire.


Another session to follow was Disrupting Food Pallet which was addressed by Mr Rajesh Sawhney, Founder, Inner Chef. Mr Nandan Reddy, Co founder, Swiggy, Mr Saurabh Kochhar, CEO, Food Panda, Mr Raghav Verma, Co -founder, Sunshine Teahouse Pvt. Ltd (Chaayos), Mr Ankur Gupta, Co founder, Drifter’s Cafe, And Mr Vikrant Mishra, Co founder, Eggjactly & Sushi House Mafia. The emphasis here was on the emergence of increasing online business in Food Retail and some innovative offline business models like Food Trucks, Food Aggregators and out of the box OSR models. These business ideas are in for a quantum leap in the coming years and do seem to be the disruptive force to regular Food Retail.

The session Extraordinary journey of Extraordinary Chefs saw Ms Kavneet Sawhney, Director Culinary Communications, Founder of The Gourmet High Street talk us through with Ms. Nita Mehta, Celeberity Chef, Author and now a Restaurant Owner. She traced her journey from Ms. Nita Mehta being a housewife to now a Celebrity on her own. Ms. Mehta shared her personal experiences, her trials and tribulations along her journey. A real role model for any budding entrepreneur.

I also got a chance to get clicked with the legendary Ms Nita Mehta and she came across as a very warm person. She also shared a beautiful message for all aspiring chefs.

The last session “Going Beyond Borders” With Celebrity Chefs Ranveer Brar and Vicky Ratnani was a really enjoyable one with their most candid comments. Everyone at the event was waiting for this finale of the conclave and looking forward to their interaction with these both celebrity chefs. Ranveer as usual had his answers ready for everything with a heavy dose of wit in them, while Vicky was at his intellectual best. I also got a chance to get clicked with my favourite chefs.

All in all a wonderful Conclave. Kudos to FICCI for organizing it and bringing forth the problems of this ever-expanding industry to the fore. The Conclave also had lunch catered by The Embassy, New Delhi.

Cocktails and Dinner was followed at the end of the conclave. I am really grateful to Vickrham and Foodmaniacs for making me a part of this amazing journey of learning about the food industry and a chance to rub shoulders with who is who of the food world.

The National Tribal Carnival 2016 Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narender Modi to be held on 26th-28th October

The National Tribal Carnival, 2016 will be held at Hall No 7, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, between October 26-28. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on 25th October 2016 at 4pm. The carnival is a rare opportunity to experience the rich diversity of tribal art, craft, culture and cuisine. The three-day tribal bonanza is being brought to you by Central Government. A host of states will be participating in the events. They will be showcasing their rich diversity of art forms as said by Mr Ashok Kumar Singh , Director Culture, Tourism Art and Culture.

There will be food stalls selling culinary delights. Masterpieces of arts and crafts made by tribal artists from various states will also be on display. In addition, there will be culture programmes staged by tribal artists. The state of Jharkhand will be a major participant at the carnival. It will showcase it various art forms at the event. Its major highlights include Nagpuri, PYKA, Chauu, Samthali, Kharia, Karsha, Mundari. Seven Jharkhand groups,who have enthralled national and international audiences with their performances, will perform theirfolk dance before the Prime Minister at the inaugural function at the Indira Gandhi Stadium. The Tribal Carnival is held every year. It is part of the government’s effortto preserve, promote and showcase various facets of the tribal life. It aims to present tribal culture tradition, customs and skills before a national audience. It is an opportunity for tribal artists to reach out to the general public and explore the potential of their cultural offerings at a national level.

The conversation revolved around Breast Cancer, October being the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The talk aimed at creating awareness in society for actively fighting breast cancer by helping people understand what breast cancer is, how to detect the disease , its treatment options and ways to cope with the physical and emotional side effects . The talk bought out real life stories of breast cancer survivors who shared their experiences as to how to deal with the deadly disease as a patient, family or caregivers.

Prashant Rawalia announced as winner of the Monin Cup 2016!

Prashant Rawalia gets a chance to showcase his talent & represent India in International bartending challenge scheduled on the 5th of  December in Paris, France. He will compete with 80 other national champions , drawn after a thorough search for young talent in each of these countries .

In a nail-biting finale, 12 finalists from 4 cities (3 from Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai & Pune each) competed neck to neck at Hard Rock Cafe in Gurgaon on 7th Oct to confer the winner title.  All the cocktails prepared by finalist bartenders were put through both technical and sensory evaluations .The event was judged by a panel of the industry’s elite experts including Master Mixologist, Andrea Fidora, Yandup Lama, Food Critic, Sourish Bhattacharya,Shalini Kumar and Pawan Soni.

The finalists were challenged on their full range of skills as hospitality professionals. Prashant Rawalia prevailed throughout the competition with his outstanding showmanship and innovative cocktail creation, technique and performance under pressure.

Additionally, to this, the event also showcased a master class on professional and home  bartending from the master of cocktails, Andrea Fidora. He enlightened guests with some quick tips on how to prepare awesome drinks at home using MONIN products. World-class, flare champions Pankaj  and Sachin rocked the highly charged crowd with their wizardry and supreme flair to bring the house down!

KidZania Delhi NCR Celebrates the 206th Anniversary of Mexico’s National Independence Day!

Mexico’s National Independence Day is officially observed on 16th September 2016. This date is considered the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence. KidZania Delhi NCR hosted a ceremony at its theatre, where ‘The Cry of Independence’, a ritual of the church bells ringing was performed & all the honorary Mexicans for the evening and regular visitors cheered along, saying “Viva Mexico” before and after the Mexican national anthem.

Pop It Up- The Next Big Thing In Fashion, Food & Music..!!

Are you ready for the most happening fashion flea of the year..? Its time for Pop It Up. A property of Splurge Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Pop It Up is the first event in Delhi where people can come and explore the products of the country’s best and upcoming designers and along with this they can also enjoy live music, drinks and scrumptious food

POP IT UP will take place from Saturday, September 10th to Sunday, September 11th 2016 in Delhi at the Nehru Park, PSOI Club.


The same venue has hosted some of the notable events in the capital before and is located in the heart of the capital city and is surrounded by embassies of over 15 countries. Hence, the expat community and notable VIPs are also expected to attend the flea.


The timing of the event is perfect because there are no major event happening in the month and also Pop It Up is taking place right before Shrad and Navratras start. Because of these factors, the footfall at Pop It Up will further increase

The expected footfall is between 15,000-18,000 visitors.

It is a shopping festival where visitors can discover and shop from the local and country’s best upcoming artists and designers who they are unlikely to find in the city’s malls. The event will have 70 stalls for the designer and lifestyle brands.


It’s also a food festival where people get to sample food from dozens of upcoming chefs experimenting with world and fusion cuisines and also a bar & lounge with amazing variety of the best liquor. There will be 30 exclusive stalls for food outlets/home chefs/cafes.


It’s a music festival where visitors can listen to some of the most vibrant up and coming singer-songwriters and independent musicians from all over the country. 8 handpicked bands will be performing live at the flea.


Other attractions include hair & make up workshop, cocktail making workshop, t-shirt painting, pottery workshop, pet café, free book exchange section and many more.

Speaking on Pop It Up, Vasudha said, “ I first heard about InstaBounce not long back from my friends who used the app to find happening parties in Delhi. Just around that time, I got a chance to be a part of the bar crawl they arranged and it was an amazing experience. Now being a fashion designer myself, when I saw the scale and the new concept of Pop It Up, it attracted me and then later knowing that it is done by InstaBounce, just made me go for it. Reebok Fight Night at Select City Walk- Engaging Fitness Enthusiasts

Strengthening its position as the leading fitness brand in the country and to celebrate the growing enthusiasm around MMA, Reebok India organized a real MMA fighting cage to enthrall fitness enthusiasts with the world’s most popular sport of fitness. The ‘Reebok FIGHT NIGHT’ was organized at Select City Walk Mall, New Delhi.

The ‘Fight Night’ witnessed nine intense fights, among 18 amateur fighters, trainers & athletes from the MMA community. Renowned MMA expert and Reebok Master Trainers Siddharth Singh and Deepak Karai engaged hundreds of fitness enthusiasts in a power packed MMA master class that covered tips to champion the mental and physical groundwork needed to become a successful MMA fighter, and the secret behind keeping one’s head in the game when on the ropes.

The excitement was palpable as the event kicked off with a one of its kind MMA flash mob by Reebok MMA trainers. Those who volunteered to participate in the MMA master class definitely returned home with their head high as it takes guts to stand in a ring with another person knowing that the impending skirmish can get ugly. Participants were drenched in sweat at the end of the master class that focused on essential self-defense and striking skills from Thai kick boxing.
