Cafe Southall, The Raw and Real Foodie Experience

Cafe Southall tucked away in the Tolstoy Lane, Janpath is just the place you need to unwind, with your family or friends. Its a lounge cum cafe with a  very rustic and raw appeal and is yet extremely comforting and premium. Its an idle place for your sunny afternoon lunches or some vibrant and energetic evenings. They have live music events pretty often and offer some lip smacking North Indian, Continental, Italian and Asian food. One of the highlights of the place is that it is huge and spacious. The seating is very comfortable and a big bar is adequate enough to handle any kind of rush.

I headed out here with a few friends on a Sunny Sunday afternoon and it was just perfect. We began by ordering Chicken Caesar Salad, Murg Malai Tikka, Pesto Fish Tikka and Corn & Fennel Tikki. Highlighting the best things first, the Pesto Fish Tikka was superb, thick pesto marinated coated over cubes of fish, grilled to perfection, this dish is surely a must have, I am sure you will enjoy it. Murg Malai Tikka for me is a staple, I have to kinda order it wherever I get it as I just love the creaminess of it and even here it was done fantastically. Very soft and tender chicken pieces with oodles of cream, loved it. I was a little apprehensive about the Corn & Fennel Tikki as I don’t like fennel’s taste as such, but surprisingly in this corn and fennel tikki, fennel’s taste wasn’t overpowering and the tikki was nice, corny and crispy. Chicken Caesar Salad was just about normal, it could have been a little more juicy and flavoursome.

Next we tried Multani Paneer Tikka, which was very soft and nice, it has a very mild taste and very easy on tongue. Andhra Style Prawns were something my friends praised a lot, but somehow I didn’t feel like eating prawns that day so gave it a miss. Amritsari Fish Tikka, was another delightful dish that we all enjoyed, fried fish in a crispy batter served with chutney, this was an amazing one and must be tried for sure, you will find it little different from how it is served at other places, at least I did. Chicken Dimsums that we tried were juicy and extremely well prepared. We were still hungry for some more tikkas, so we ordered a non-veg platter to satiate our greed 😉 and it was a beautiful platter indeed. Fish Tikka, Chicken Tikka, Malai Tikka and Seekh Kebab.. all in one platter, who would not want to have this one, sheer bliss for non-vegetarians!

Rajma Galauti Ke Sliders were the next dish that we tried as our first step towards the main course and it was really nice, especially the rajma galauti, I however found my bun a little stretchy but my friends begged to differ as theirs were all soft, so may be I was the chosen one, but nevertheless this is one dish that you must try, it was really good.

Before I talk about the main course, let me tell you something about the drinks, well I tried three different mocktails and all of them were simply wonderful. Strawberry Orange Slush, Pomegranate Mint Cooler and Green Apple and Chilli and I cant say one was better than the other, because all of them were equally good.

The main course included Butter Chicken, Dal Makhani, Rogan Josh, Methi Malai Mushroom and Kadhai Paneer. Every single dish was totally upto expectations, but for me the winner was the Rogan Josh. It was one of the most perfect Rogan Josh I have eaten in recent times. This is definitely a must try for all mutton lovers.

Bringing our culinary extravaganza to an end, we had Blueberry Cheese Cake and Hot Chocolate Sundae, both of which were amazing, especially the cheese cake.

Overall the experience was fantastic and we had a lot of fun enjoying good food and awesome drinks. Its surely a place one must visit. Enjoy!

Made in Punjab- Truly Punjabi…!!

Made in Punjab is another fine dine, class apart restaurant by none other than Zorawar Kalra. His restaurants have a different kind of niche which is almost unmatchable and Made in Punjab also stands true to the benchmark. Fully Punjabi in terms of decor, ambience and even music which is played, this is a place for food lovers in the truest of sense. This is a place where you fully indulge in food without thinking of calories, think only taste and you will love it.

When Mr. Bhalla Met Ms. Papdi (quite an interesting name, isn’t it) and Tokri Chaat were the first two things we ordered, along with Guava Mary and Mojito for drinks.

When Mr. Bhalla Met Ms. Papdi was as inserting in taste as its name, nice and soft bhallas with kurkuri papdi and tanginess of tamarind chutney and green chutney, made it all together a nice dish. The Tokri Chaat too was good, but the tastes were almost similar because of the fact that they both belonged to the chaat family.

Next we ordered, Legacy Tandoori Champ, Meat Te Seekhan, Lol Tikki and Gabbar Prawns. The Tandoor Champ was outstanding, such tender mutton chops with excellent tandoori marination, done to perfection, this one is a must try. Lol Tikki, very different and unique, just like the name, it was a mutton cutlet made from mutton legs slow cooked for over 10 hours and it was extremely delicious. Gabbar Prawns and Seekh were good too, but nothing exceptional about them.

Chicken Chilli, Broccoli Badam and Kalmi Kebab along with Creamy Seekh Kebabs were another set of starters we ordered. The Broccoli was excellent and so was the Chilli Chicken, Kalmi Kebabs as per me had a scope of improvement, as chicken could have been more tender, it was a little hard for my liking, the winner here was the Creamy Seekh, topped with cheesy and creamy sauce these were really amazing and definitely a must try.

[easy-image-collage id=5588]

Coming to main course we tried Luxury BC ( hey what are you thinking..??? Its just Luxury Butter Chicken ;)), Maa ki Daal, Lehsuni Palak Chenna, Nalli Hard Kaur and Paneer Lababdar and must say that each and everything was delicious. I specially loved the Daal, Lehsuni Palak Chenna and Nalli Hard Kaur the most. True authentic Punjabi flavours at their best!

And then one of the best things happened.. we tried the Guchchi Pulao, aka mushroom pulao which was mind blowing. Guchchi by the way is one of the most expensive kinds of mushroom and it tasted amazing.

And now coming to another delightful and sweet part, the desserts which were AMMMMAzing… really each one of them was better than the other. Goushalla Di Kulfi, Mango Rasgulla, Stuffed Gulabjamun, Nukkad Jalebi and Ras Dates Malai. All of them should definitely be tried and the ones not to be missed at any cost are the Mango Rasgulla, Nukkad Jalebi and the Chocolate Stuffed Gulab Jamun. These are truly heavenly delights.

In the end all I can say is that this is one place worth every minute and every penny you spend.. so just go for it..!

Masala Library- Not just food, but an experience beyond words..!

Some places are not just about food, but the wholesome experience you get in terms of food, presentation, drinks, service, ambience, hospitality and everything else. I have been thinking since long of visiting Masala Library but somehow it never worked out. But recently during Shivratri holiday, me and my son headed out to ML to experience the best.

The ambience is as classy as it can be, totally top notch and a perfect fine dining place.

We decided to settle for the Chef’s tasting menu because we felt that way we would get to try a variety of things and I think it was one of the best decisions we made.

Our culinary extravaganza of 19 course meal began with Amuse Bouche, which had mango pulp with coconut water and was supposed to be gulped down in one shot, and it was really nice, but more intriguing was the way it was presented, like yolk in eggs that too on a nest.

Up next was Madur Vada with Clear Rasam, an absolute delight, both in presentation and taste, loved the miniature vada and the way rasam was supposed to be drunk. Just wonderful!

The next set of snacks included Pirada Cheese Poee, Deconstructed Samosa, Charcoal Bhajiya, Nadir Churma and Farmer’s Staple. Out of these minus the cheese, which I didn’t like too much, everything else was fantabulous. The Deconstructed Samosa went to become one of the best things I have tasted ever. Charcoal Bhajiya was great too, and because of its charcoal black colour my son ended up eating an onion bhajiya which he normally doesn’t. Nadir Chruma was another dish, which he polished off because he didn’t come to know its made of lotus stem and had a spread of hung curd with raddish. The Farmer’s Staple was a millet paratha stuffed with caramelised onions and it was truly mind blowing. Not just the taste and presentation, but the whole experience of the way these dishes are served and one of the team members comes and explains the dishes, its just amazing. It feels everytime a new cultural story is unfolding.

The next set of dishes intrigued me even more, as the presentation and textures were superlative. It included a Mushroom Chai, Galauti Kebab and Sheermal, Curry Leaf Prawns with Thayir Satham and Cubed Chicken Tikka. The Mushroom Chai was simply fabulous and so was the Curry Leaf Prawn, these both tasted awesome. The Cubed Chicken in three different textures,  a chicken tikka, a chicken papad and chicken crumble was great, but the winner here was the Galauti Kebab, which didn’t look like a kebab at all, in fact it appeared as a spread of small noodles on the bed of a fluffy sheermal. This truly was an outstanding preparation.

Up next was a Lamb Champ with maple and kokum glaze and it was amazing, the sweetness of maple was perfectly balanced with sourness of kokum, which made this champ sweet, sour, tangy and extremely tasteful. After this Tawa Keema with Pickled Bitter Gourd was served, very tasty and amusing to find bitter gourd that wasn’t so bitter, but tangy.

The Sorbet which came as a refreshing palette cleanser, was like a deja vu to childhood, as it had the flavours of anardana, hajmola, kala-khatta etc., it was really nice.

Mizo Stew, followed by Tawa Boti, Curry, Breads and Fermented Pakodi Dal made for the last set of main course dishes. By the time I reached this stage I was already so full, eating bite sized foods one doesn’t even realise they would be so filling, but they indeed are. Out of this entire course I loved the stew and the tawa boti the most.

[easy-image-collage id=9644]

And now an elaborate dessert menu awaited us, and it truly was a treat. Dense Dark Chocolate Mousse, Bhappa Doi, Chenna Payesh, Ashen Kulfi and Jalebi Caviar, doesn’t your mouth starts watering just reading these names.. I am sure it does.. at least mine does..No words can explain the taste of these desserts as you can only savour them and let your taste buds linger, all I can say is that each one of them was better than the other. The final touch was given with a dark chocolate truffle presented with a magnetic levitation, which was great to watch and greater to taste.

Last but not the least a candied orange tree for mouth freshener brought our amazing culinary journey to an end. It truly was the most unique fooding experience I have ever had.

A wide variety of Wine can enhance your meal experience at Masala Library as they have a full fledged Wine Cellar and an in house expert to help you with the selection of wines. As for me I gave wines a skip and settled for a Cherry Cobbler to go with my food.

It was an overwhelming experience for me and I loved it every bit. This is one of those places that has to come in anyone and everyones must visit, so please do go and give yourself a culinary treat!

Witlinger, India’s 1st Craft Beer Brand with authentic taste and flavours is all set to launch new initiative #NowRolling to enhance consumer knowledge about craft beer. Witlinger has made inroads into Indian Craft Beer scene with their unique taste and honest flavours.

Beer drinking habits are creating fresh wave of flavors and trends in international markets. Craft beer has taken the global beer industry by storm and it is catching up the taste of Indian consumers swiftly. Though market has great potential, there is a lack of acceptance among Indian consumers for crafted beers due to lack of consumer knowledge. Though this is changing on fast pace, as young Indian drinkers are ready to experience new flavours and different style of beers.

To create awareness and enhance consumer experience, India’s first craft beer brand with its 130 years of legacy along with innovative technologies, Witlinger unveiled its new innovative campaign- #NowRolling. The event held at Lord of the Drinks, Connaught Place also introduced ‘Witparty’, a fresh concept by Witlinger wherein end users get a chance to organize their own party sponsored by the brand.

#NowRolling campaign is first-of-its-kind concept in India driven on enhancing consumer knowledge and generating awareness on beer drinking habits to create an authentic experience of crafted beers. The campaign aims to target the beer lovers with interesting awareness drive around craft beer drinking experience. Rolling of a beer bottle is a craft beer initiative and is mainly with unfiltered wheat beers. Unfiltered beers have ingredients that gets settle at the bottom of the bottle. To enjoy the full flavors and aromas bottle needs to be rolled and swirled before pouring it fully in the glass. The trained staff and beer experts of Witlinger will take the consumers’ experience to whole new level with tips on pouring, drinking, and enjoying the best of craft beer.

Speaking on the occasion, Anuj Kushwah, Founder & Managing Director, Kaama Impex Pvt. Ltd said, “Craft beer has a unique style and taste, which can only be enjoyed if poured right to preserve its aroma, ingredients and feel. While craft beer the next big thing in India, many people do not get to enjoy the original taste of it because of unawareness on serving and drinking methods. Witlinger is creating fresh avenues to satiate consumers’ growing thirst for craft beer with its innovative concepts like ‘Witparty’ and #NowRolling.”

‘Witparty’ is conceptualized to target the beer lovers as brand advocates and offer them the zesty flavor of Witlinger. Witlinger will give its end users a platform to organize their own witparty which will be supported by the brand. The Wheat Ale beer is created with a sole idea of providing the Indian consumers with varied and premium quality craft beer. It is cloudy and partially filtered and has fruity flavors making it easy to drink beer any time of the day. It is brewed with mix of wheat & malt and also contains yeast, which should be evenly distributed throughout the beer by gently rolling the bottle back and forth before opening to pour.

The event as Lord of Drinks was a classy one, and we had a lot of fun rolling the beers and then gulping them down. Getting an invite to such events is always a pleasure. Nice arrangement of snacks and food made the experience complete and I really look forward to more WITPARTYs.

Craft beer offers some important health benefits because it contains antioxidants, protein, and vitamin B complex. It is a good source of silicon and some recent scientific studies show that hops could act as a barrier against gradual decline of the brain’s cognitive functions. Drinking craft beer regularly in moderate way can provide these benefits because of the high quality ingredients used to brew the craft beer.

Witlinger

Taking inspiration from the vibrant UK craft beer scene, Witlinger is the first crafted beer in India brewed by Master Brewers at Brains Brewery in Cardiff, United Kingdom. Combined with over 130 years of traditional brewing heritage, knowledge, and expertise, Witlinger beer is brewed with the finest ingredients from around the world to offer distinctive flavors, giving a real and honest craft beer experience.

Dilli BC- Keeps your taste buds lingering for long..!!

Very few times, we come across places where the food is so perfect, that one cant help licking the fingers off. One such place is this tiny tiny take away/delivery outlet Dilli BC tucked away in the Malviya Nagar Market, right next to Aurobindo College. Though its primarily a take away and delivery outlet, but if you are a small group of friends who don’t mind standing across a table and indulge in some great food while you converse, then they are perfect in that regards too.

So on a windy afternoon, I with a bunch of friends decided to stop by this place and grab a quick lunch, but lest we knew that it will turn out to be an extravagant indulgence in food and conversations.

Our culinary journey began by tasting one of the best dishes they have to offer, the Bhatti Chicken, followed by Anari Chicken Tikka. Both these dishes are a must try and not to be missed at all. The Bhatti Chicken, coated with a secret black masala and perfectly roasted is a delight. Its so juicy and nice that you can’t stop at just one piece. Chicken Anari Tikka on the other hand was very different, with a sense of tanginess, but extremely tasty. Loved it.

Next we tried Chicken Lehsuni Tikka and Chicken Seekh Kebab, and both of them though regular but were amazing.

Up next we tried the Stuffed Tangri Kebab and Chicken Nawabi, both them very unusual and tasteful. The Stuffed Tangri was a double treat, tandoori chicken leg with minced chicken stuffing, simply outstanding. Chicken Nawabi topped with gooey cheese was another delightful preparation, the flavours of cheese with roasted tikka tasted really nice.

We were all bunch of hardcore non-vegetarians with just one exceptional friend who was a pure vegetarian, but he proved to be the most important person in our group, we realised this once he placed his orders and we tasted the vegetarian dishes. The Vegetarian items were a level above the non-vegetarian ones, each and every thing we tasted was simply mind-blowing.

Paneer Anari Tikka, Kali Mirch Paneer Tikka, Achari Soya Chaap, Dahi Ke Sholey, pick any item and I am sure you will love it. I mean we all loved it so much so that our tasting became a full-fledged meal, where in we again ordered the entire set of vegetarian starters for ourselves and our veg friend still got the least portion 🙂

Coming to main course, Dilli BC again proved a notch above the rest. The Butter Chicken was of superlative quality, much better than the well known so called leaders of Butter Chicken in Delhi and so was the Dal Makhani, a perfect 10/10. Chicken Rara and Rogan BC (Mutton) were another flavoursome dishes to savour. Try these awesome delicacies with their assorted breads and don’t forget to order a mirchi parantha, its not to be missed.

Now let me tell you about one of the highlight dishes from our entire meal, it was the Tandoori Chicken Roll, a roll not just made of tandoori chicken but also rolled in a tandoori roti and served with a rocking smokey dip, this is definitely a must try and I am sure you will become a fan.

After having this hearty lunch at Dilli BC, I am very sure that this is gonna be on my speed dial to order food whenever I am taking a break from cooking or feeling lazy or simply craving their food. Also happened to bump into Apurv Kansal who owns the place, and must say his suggestions, his hospitality and insightful plus light hearted conversations added a lot of value to the overall experience.

What are you waiting for, pick up your phone and dial now, they serve currently from 3 outlets, GK2, Malviya Nagar and Dwarka, go ahead, have a feast!

The Orb @Radisson Blu Plaza, Delhi Airport, truly celestial!

True to its name, the moment you step into Orb, you feel the celestial vibes, it feels like a heavenly body, or may be just another planet, but for sure there is something magical about the place. You feel transformed into another world and it also stands true to its name in other way, that it is a circular shaped bar with a huge centre piece of lighting and circular shaped seating around it. The beautiful ambience is marked by the dim blue and pink lighting and with some live DJ music thrown in, it becomes one of the hottest party destination in Delhi. It really makes for the perfect place to hang around with your friends over drinks and music.

Coming to food and drinks, they are as rocking as the ambience of the bar. The bartenders are extremely friendly and they really turn around things to serve finest and most intriguing drinks. When you visit, you ought to try their signature cocktails, they will just blow you over. Khopdi is one such fascinating drink, the process of making it is itself so interesting that yo cant help but keep looking at it for a long time.

Other amazing drinks were Orange Caprioshka, Chilli Chocolate Bunny, Apple Cinnamon Punch, Pale Lady on the Beach and many more..

Finger food to go along with drinks is pretty good too. We tried the Bruschetta, Orb Special Pizza, Achari Fish Tikka and Prawn Tempura. The Bruschetta was really good and so were the Prawns, but I personally loved the Pizza and Achari Fish Tikka the most. The fish was crispy on the outside, perfectly spiced and tender from the inside. The taste of roasted garlic and basil pesto on the pizza was just amazing, I loved it. Chicken Tenders and Cottage Cheese Tikka was good too.

The desserts were the highlight, I tried the Oreo Cookie Baileys Cheese Bar, which was simply awesome. I normally don’t like cheese cakes but this was really nice. Next I tried the Hazelnut Mousse Fudge, which too was nice, but there is a scope for improvement in this one, as I found it a bit dry.

Overall I spent a great evening at Orb, with my friends and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, it would be evident if you see the pictures below 😉

A Grill Company- Thrills of Molecular Gastronomy and Live Grills!

So Noida gets a new baby who will serve live grills and thrill the customers with some molecular gastronomy, yes I am talking about the recently opened A Grill Company and that too at one of the hottest destinations within Noida, that is the Logix City Centre Mall that also houses 15 screen theatre by PVR and one of the biggest IMAX screens.

Coming back to A Grill Company, the ambience is a well balanced one and gives you both a casual lounge like feel and also the fine dining experience.

[easy-image-collage id=5387]

Each table has the live grill fitted in it and that makes the experience even more over whelming. While our meats and veggies were getting roasted on the grill, the molecular gastronomy kept us amazed. A trolly with a dedicated person was wheeled in and it felt completely gimmicky, the play of nitrogen turned things into different textures and it was  fun watching it. Now coming to the tastes, this trolly first of all served Nitrogen Nachos Chaat and Bhalla Papdi with Yogurt Spheres and both the items were nice, though the Nachos chaat did not have nachos in the real sense, it had more like Bingo chips taste, but overall it was good.

Next up was the Nitrogen Bar, and it served Golgappas with Pani Test Tubes, which were nice, though I liked only the Khatta wala Pani and not the sweeter ones. Then we tried the Deconstructed Dahi Vada Sundae, this was one of the most amazing things, first of all it no where looked like dahi vadas, it really looked like an ice-cream sundae, secondly the taste was superb, I really liked it.

From the grill section, I liked Neelgiri Korma Chicken, Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings, Mirchi Amawat Ki Gobhi & Pepper Fry Soya Chaap the most. The chicken was really tender and grilled to perfection. The gobhi was a real delight, the flavours were so amazing and well coated, that it tasted amazing.

The main course had an elaborate spread consisting of soup, salads, chicken, mutton and fish dishes along with a great vegetarian selection and desserts too. Also it had quite a mix of regional dishes. I settled for some Junglee Mutton and also tried the Dal Makhani, along with a Rajasthani speciality, Dal and Bati. The food was good, especially the mutton and dal makhani. Also tried a bit of Biryani and I liked that too.

[easy-image-collage id=5383]

In desserts, I had Chocolate Pastry, Chocolate Coffee Mousse and Berry & Custard, though the desserts were good, but I feel this is one section which has a scope for improvement.

But overall, given the fact that such Lavish Dinner Buffet costs only Rs 795++, I think its totally worth it. As they haven’t got the liquor license yet, we enjoyed flavoured bantas and refreshing mocktails.

Otherwise the buffet details are

Lunches are 580 ++ ( Veg) and 680 ++ ( Non Veg)
Dinner is 695 ++ Veg and 795 ++ Non Veg

Asia Central- Excellent Food Delivery Option

Food delivery services always come in handy on lazy weekend evenings or tired weekday nights, and recently on one such occasion I ordered food from Asia Central as I was craving for some authentic oriental food. I ordered the following dishes:

Kung Pao Chicken, a classic Sichuan dish that originated in the Sichuan province of Southern-Western part of China, is prepared with stir fried chicken tossed with peanuts, vegetables and chilli peppers. Full points to Asia Central for preparing this dish in an authentic manner, the flavours, the texture, everything was perfect.

Chicken in Black Bean Sauce was the other main course dish that I ordered and it too was done perfectly. The taste of black bean sauce was perfectly balanced, it was neither too strong nor too mild.

Chicken Hawker Noodles, a perfect combination to go with the chicken gravies, the noodles were awesome. Thankfully had loads of chicken pieces and vegetables too.

Chicken Fried Rice, were another delightful preparation. Perfectly fried rice with chunks of chicken, it served as a perfect companion with my Kung Pao Chicken.

Overall, the food was amazing, the packaging very neat and great effort was taken in packing every thing required along with the food like chopsticks, forks, sauces etc. and  now I know that this is gonna be the place I will frequently order food from when craving for Chinese.

Boheme Bar & Grill- Food Review

Well, this place was like a pleasant discovery for me, situated right behind the Select City Walk, somehow I never did go behind the mall and was ignorant about the fact that this street was really hustling and bustling with people and lined with quite a few places to eat and drink. Walking a little further in the street, I spotted this place and thought of giving it a try, as being a food blogger one is always curious to explore new places.

To begin with we ordered, Bruschetta, Chicken Tikka Frontier and Tawa Meat along with Mojito and Kit Kat Shake to drink. The Bruschetta was nice and crispy, and I loved every bit of the Chicken Tikka Frontier, though it was on the spicier side, but it was delicious. The Tawa Meat was another highlight, such tender pieces of mutton in thick tawa gravy, for me I could have eaten only this with a roomali roti and it would have become a complete meal.

Next we tried Italian Meat Balls, Peri Peri Chicken Pizza, Chicken Malai Tikka and Ala Arrabbiata Pasta. The Meat Balls were good, but still had a very peculiar taste that I could not pick and which wasn’t as per my taste buds. The Peri Peri Chicken Pizza is a must try, hand rolled pizza crust with amazing topping of peri peri chicken and veggies, it was a delightful creation to savour. The Chicken Malai Tikka was great in taste, creamy and succulent, this was another winner dish. The Pasta was perfectly done and I loved it.

For the main course we tried the Spicy Cottage Cheese Creole, which was outstanding. I have never eaten cottage cheese in such creamy yet flavourful white sauce, it was really different and awesome to taste. Grilled Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce was the other main course dish we ordered and this didn’t disappoint either. The fish was nicely done in buttery light sauce with hint of garlic.

I overall had a great foodie experience at this newly discovered place and I am very sure of visiting it pretty soon. The food is great, the ambience cosy and comfortable and what more can one ask for. Try out for yourself!
