Parenting is hard work and may take a lot out of you on any given day. However, that’s not to say that your role and job as a parent shouldn’t be enjoyable and that you shouldn’t make time to have some fun.
While you likely have a hectic schedule most days, it’s up to you to ensure that you not only work hard but play hard too. Learn how to have some fun as a busy parent so that you can stay happy and well and make sure you’re getting the most out of each day and your life.
Set up Play Dates
You don’t always have to view parenting as a chore and time to be serious. Instead, set up play dates with other kids and moms. It’s a great opportunity for you to see and catch up with your friends and for your children to have a good time as well. Mix up what you do and who you spend time with to keep each play date fun and exciting. You’ll have the chance to reconnect with friends or meet new people and your kids will also like getting to play and be silly with others their age.
Go Out to Eat
Always being at home gets tiring and boring over time. It’s important that you commit to getting out of the house once in a while. One idea for having some fun as a busy parent is to go out to eat at a local or favorite restaurant in the area. If you’re unsure of where to go you can hop online to check out and read some reviews from other diners. However, just be mindful and aware of the yelp extortion accusations and make sure you gather information from several sources before picking a place to eat. You can either go out with your friends, just your family, or ask other families to join as well.
Practice Self-Care at Home
You don’t always have to go to the spa or spend a lot of money to practice self-care. Have some fun and relax by participating in self-care activities in the comfort of your home. You can take a warm bath, get lost in a good book, or put your feet up and indulge in a short nap if your kids are gone. You might also consider exercising such as going for a walk or hike or meditating and reflecting on your life and thinking about your future goals.
Set Realistic Expectations & Remain Flexible
Overall, it is possible to have some fun as a busy parent. However, you must be committed to doing so and stop making excuses about why you can’t find the time. Set realistic expectations and remain flexible with your to-do list and responsibilities. Remind yourself that not all your chores need to get done right now and figure out what ones can wait if something enjoyable pops up that you wish to do instead. You’ll be much happier and healthier when you find more balance in your life and have some fun.
These are great ideas for busy parents. I use to use similar practices when my boys were young.
I do all of these and more! Thank you for the reminder that we as busy moms have to take care of ourselves 1st, due for my self care now 🙂
When my son was younger I always make sure to some little alone time for self care. As little as just taking a hot long shower.
I think “Set Realistic Expectations & Remain Flexible” should be the cardinal rule. Talk to your kids and explain it properly to your kids.
