Experiencing teamLab Planets Tokyo was a true highlight of our Japan travel journey. It had been on our wishlist the moment we started planning our Japan itinerary. Known for its mind-bending digital art and immersive experiences, it felt like a must-do, especially for first-time visitors to Tokyo. the moment we started planning our Japan itinerary. Known for its mind-bending digital art and immersive experiences, it felt like a must-do, especially for first-time visitors to Tokyo.

We booked our tickets through Klook almost a month in advance and chose the 5:30 PM slot. At the time, it felt perfect. But once we got there, we had a small regret — we missed watching the sunset outdoors. Since the entire experience is inside and dark, a later slot like 6:30 or 7 PM might have been better. Just something to keep in mind if you’re chasing that golden hour magic!
First, remove your shoes. Place all your belongings in a locker. Yes, they’re very efficient about it. Lockers are spacious and convenient, so don’t worry about carrying much with you. Once barefoot and belongings-free, you’re guided into a dimly lit corridor. The moment you step onto the first water path, you know you’re in for something completely different.
There’s something oddly freeing about walking barefoot into an unknown space. The coolness of the water as it gently runs over your feet is instantly calming. We looked at each other with excitement — this wasn’t a museum; this was going to be an adventure.
Each space is immersive. One moment, you’re stepping through softly lit water features. The next moment, you’re surrounded by floating flowers that breathe and move as you do. The air smells of florals, and everything is mirrored — beneath your feet, above your head. It feels endless. This is where we just stood still, taking it all in.
There are moments of awe. One such moment is when you walk into a space filled with lights that shift color as you move. This creates a world that feels both futuristic and dreamlike. It was so beautiful and unexpected that we found ourselves whispering “wow” more times than I can count.
Then came the soft, bouncy walkway — a surprise that instantly brought out our inner kids. We stumbled, giggled, and just let go. It’s rare to find joy so freely in a public space, but teamLab makes that possible.
The room with glowing orbs was another hit. We touched them gently and bounced them playfully. We watched the colours shift from purple to blue to orange. We stood there mesmerised. The lighting moved in waves, creating a rhythmic, almost meditative energy around us.
And just when you think it’s over, you step into the outdoor garden space. It’s serene and quiet, with floating flowers reflecting on still water. We sat here for a while. It was a peaceful end to an otherwise wildly sensory experience.

One of the best things about teamLab Planets is that it’s not just a museum — it’s an experience. It made us feel, laugh, slow down, and connect. It’s art that doesn’t just sit on walls — it pulls you in.
