Relive School Moments @ The Classroom, Sector 29, Gurgaon

The Classroom at sector 29, Gurgaon is definitely a walk down the memory lane.
As one enters the first thing that hits you is Nostalgia, as the name suggests the restaurant decor is around classroom. One is transported back in time to the school going days and that itself is a very pleasant feeling. I mean we all still have that child somewhere in us, those numerous memories of school days and in this fast paced life, that’s one place we now seek revisiting the most. Though nature doesn’t allow us to go back in time, but all thanks to places like Classroom, we can at least relive those moments and refresh our most cherished memories.

The restaurant boasts of a 400 cover spread over three floors. They have a really exhaustive menu both for food and beverages.
Very interesting snippets and photographs adorn the walls.
The classroom effect is very much visible in the lovely decor right from blackboards with some amusing messages to the books used as lampshades, very innovative really. They even have a recreation zone complete with snooker, foosball, darts, and even some swings.

For Starters we had Palak Patta Chaat, crisp fried palak well mixed with yoghurt and sweet saunth chutney and some green mint chutney.

Club Wellington Eggs Kejriwal, a simply awesome butter toasted bread with cheddar cheese, mushrooms and eggs sunny side up done to perfection. The Lukmi, a Hyderabadi recipe, crisp patty filled with flavoured mince.
The Classroom Maska Chicken served with a rumali, a superbly done tandoori butter chicken in a very innovative style, please don’t expect the typical gravy butter chicken, it was truly different and highly recommended. Really an awesome creation.
The chicken Momos were well done but nothing exclusive really.
For the main course we had The Andhra Chicken which was mildly spiced but with the right authentic flavour. The Keema Ghotala, a really mouthwatering lamb mince with egg and served with really soft maska buns, a real treat.
Meen Moilee a real delicacy of sole fish made in Malabari curry very easy on the palate and left a lingering taste.

Not to forget the Cocktails n Mocktails.

Couple Chemistry was an interesting mix of Vodka,Pineapple Juice and Beer, and served in a very unique manner,by way of presentation. Year Repeat had a great mix of Vodka, Apple and Peach syrup topped up with Sparkling Wine.
Also had the house brew of wheat beer an absolute delight. Sweet Like You and Outstanding Kick made for some interesting Mocktails.

Walking Street by Soi7- Restaurant Review

Pretty woman walking down the street! Oops no..! Pretty Woman at the WALKING STREET, yes that was me the pretty woman enjoying a relaxed evening at Walking Street in sector 29 Gurgaon. My weekend seemed extremely sorted when We Are Gurgaon invited me for a specials blogger meet at Walking Street by Soi7. A vibrant yet cool and comfortable ambience is how walking street is spread across 2 floors. The lower floor even has a pool table and foosball unit for you to have some fun with your family and friends while you enjoy yummylicious food and drinks.

Orange Margarita was my choice for the drink along with Szechuan Veg and Non-veg Dumplings, Hunan Style Cottage Cheese and Shredded Chicken Assorted Pepper Chili. The Margarita was done perfectly and was really refreshing. The Dumplings were delectable and I loved the Pepper Chicken, it was really nice. Though the crushed peppers could have been little less, but the overall taste was great.

Grilled Baby Potatoes, Chili Bean Mushroom & Vegetables and Steamed Fish Chili Garlic was next and all three of these dishes definitely make to the must try list. The bite size baby potatoes tossed in sauces were amazing, I am not a potato lover but I could not resist these ones, they were so good. Mushrooms are anyday my favourites and what best when they are made to perfection. It’s a delight for vegetarians. The fish was so tender and soft and that it actually melted in my mouth, the chili garlic sauce topped over it, enhanced the subtle taste of fish and made it a perfect combination.

Though the bloggers menu was a mix of Thai and Oriental, but we could not resist ourselves from trying a few Indian delicacies as well. We ordered the very popular lamb chops and they were totally mouth drooling, one must not give them a miss at any cost. They are totally worth it. The mutton was perfectly cooked and tender and the spices worked so well it making it a very delicious dish.

We also ordered the Duck and Mutton Galautis and they were more than lovely. The duck meat as well as mutton was so perfectly cooked that they truly melted in mouth, served on a small parantha, they were like a meal in themselves if one person gobbles up the entire plate.

Coming to the main course, there were Vegetables in Smoked Red Pepper Sauce, Exotic Vegetables in Thai Chili & Basil, Tofu in Tomato Chili Sauce, Chicken Hot Pot Shitake, Lamb Chili Oyester Sauce and Sambal Fish along with Chili Garlic Fried Rice & Scallion Noodles. I was so full already with the appetizers that I could only afford to taste the main course, but because it was Chinese that happens to be my favourite cuisine I ended up more than trying and enjoying the complete meal. Each and every dish was more than perfect. I can now really vouch for the food at this place. So whenever you are standing confused in the parking lot of sector 29 thinking where to eat, trust me this is the place, and even of you aren’t confused, go for it specially and you wont regret it.

The desserts included Seasame Toasted Honey Noodles with Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Spring Rolls with Vanilla Ice Cream. I gave the Honey Noodles a skip and settled for Chocolate Spring Rolls which were awesome.

Overall I enjoyed spending a relaxed evening with some scrumptious meal and drinks at the Walking Street, so make sure you also give it a shot and don’t forget to share your feedback with us. Cheers!

Boombox Brewstreet is back with a lot of Boom and Bang..!!

Boombox Brewstreet located in the hustling bustling market of sector 29, Gurgaon is definitely your next go to bar and casual dining space. Music is in the air, on the walls and everywhere here, because that is the central theme of this lively place. The place opened some 4-5 months back and then temporarily shut for renovation and now its back with a bang. I was recently invited by Mukul Verma, co-owner of the place for a wonderful food tasting session.

My foodie experience began by a mind blowing gastronomic Amuse Bouche, which was melt in a mouth version of our traditional dahi bhallas, served like a dollop of curd on spoons emitting smoke, it was sheer delight to watch it.

img_1859

Something is Fishy and Yeh Reshmi Zulfein were served first. Something is Fishy was a tangy and lemony fish tikka and served with big chunks of aloo chaat, which gave it a real twist and a pleasant one indeed. I loved it. Yeh Reshmi Zulfien was a nicely done Reshmi Chicken Tikka marinated with creamy pesto sauce and tandoori mayo, I loved it.

Up next were the Chemical Brothers, a trio of Jhalmuri, which had one original style, one fennel flavoured and one achari, well Jhalmuri has never been something that I am keen for and hence I did taste, but didn’t like it much. I find the flavours of oil too strong for my liking.

img_1891

Aye Mere Pyaare Mutton, Punjab Se Lekar Delhi Via Spain and Mr. Gulati Kebab were served next. Aye Mere Pyaare Mutton was a sure shot winner for me, tender and saucy meat balls served with cucumber and basil yogurt and tomato chutney. This is not to be missed. Mr. Gulati Kebab, served with chutney droppers and mini paranthas were delectable too, the kebabs were really soft and delicious. Punjab Se Lekar Delhi Via Spain was also an interesting dish, where Rajma Chawal were fried like a croquette in Amritsari Papad Crust.

Teri Meri Kahani, Kool-Cha and Main Toh Raste Se Jaa Raha The found space on our tables next. Teri Mere Kahani was an interesting version of Caesar Salad with Vegetable Croquette, it was really nice. Kool-Cha was an amazing take on a stuffed kulcha with a tasteful filling of Chettinad mushrooms, I really loved the taste of it. Main Toh Rasta Se Jaa Raha Tha was Boombox way of presenting Dahi Puris, they were nice and tangy, but one should have them immediately because they tend to turn soggy sooner than you imagine.

img_1913

img_1904

img_1898

Hothon Pe Bas Tera Naam Hai, PB&J and Imly Ka Buta Berry Ka Pulao were the final dishes served, Chicken Tikka done the Chettinad way with some molecular gastronomy on display with coconut bubbles is what made Hothon Pe Bas Tera Naam Hai. A Parsi influenced dish, Imly Ka Buta Berry Ka Pulao was basically rice cakes with pulled khatu meethu chicken and tasted really well. PB&J was also an interesting concept of bread spheres with paneer filling, fried like pakodas  with salli crust and served with a berry jam, no.. the jam wasn’t sweet, it was salty and spicy and delicious.

img_1907

This brought our culinary journey to.. no not an end, but a break, which was followed by desserts to finally bring it to an end. There was I Love My India, Rabdi & Boondi Cheesecake with Kiwi and Blueberry, I really loved this one and got inspired to try making it at home(you know I am a baker and a cook who loves to experiment with food..isnt it). The other dessert was called Khaike Paan Italy Wala, a paan flavoured Tiramisu. I did taste it and it was nice, but I basically don’t enjoy paan flavoured desserts so didn’t have much of it.

img_1923

Overall I loved my experience at Boombox, the ambience, the food, the presentation of food and the molecular gastronomy was really commendable. Even the drinks were amazing, I tried the Orange Mojito and Slushy Margarita, my son tried the Oreo Shake and all the drinks were superlative.

Factory by Sutra, a perfect amalgmation of great food, great ambience and good music..!

I have eaten alone a lot of times when I am traveling and enjoyed my own company, but being in my own city, this kind of an occasion is very rare. Recently I experienced enjoying some good food, great live music and perfect ambience, all by myself, and this was a place which now tops my list of favorites, it was Factory by Sutra at Sector 29, Gurgaon.

img_7959

I chose the balcony area to be seated, with cool breeze and some amazing sufi songs playing in the background, this appeared to be the perfect place to enjoy a relaxed evening. My foodie experience began with tasting from the Chandni Chowk Section of the menu. Delhi 6, which were golgappas stuffed with bhel, topped with aaloo tikki and chutney and some Kurkuri Bhindi Nachos, which was crispy fried masala bhindi served with some mint yogurt. Chef Abhinav, who is the man behind all tasteful food that Factory has to offer, suggested both the dishes and I loved them. The Golgappas were nice and tangy and the fried bhindi was just too good. The way bhindi was fried and the spices along with chopped onions and tomatoes, took my experience to the next level, it gave me an instant idea of what I am gonna serve my guests next when they turn up at my house. This is a must try, from a boring vegetable to an interesting snack, its totally worth it.

img_7911

Leaving myself in safe hands of Chef Abhinav, I relied on him for my next set of appetizers. This time chef suggested Crispy Calamari and Lemon Garlic Fish from the Little Munchies Section. Personally I am not very fond of Calamari, but this was good, perfectly fried and spiced, but the show stealer was the Lemon Garlic Fish. It was truly amazing; I polished off a full fillet in minutes. The taste of garlic, the freshness of lemon grass and the tender fish, made it completely drool worthy. The best thing I loved about it was that the lemon grass didn’t over power the taste; normally lemon grass is put in such a way that after two bites, you start feeling as if you are eating an aroma candle, but this one was just perfect. I highly recommend trying this one out, you will love it. I enjoyed my set of starters with a refreshing Mojito.

As I prepared myself to explore the culinary delights from the main course, a live sufi performance also began in the lounge area. The night looked much more vibrant now.

img_7945  img_7960

For main course, chef delighted me with Butter Chicken Khichri, Lahori Mutton Curry and Khamiri Roti. I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely dinner plate of mine, as the band played one of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s creation. The butter chicken khichri was something I have never tried and is hugely recommended. The Lahori Mutton Curry was simple but flavorsome; I relished it with the khamiri rotis, chutney and onions.

The best thing about Factory and Chef Abhinav’s preparations is that, they are simple and very very flavorsome. The menu isn’t very elaborate, but has all the basics and best dishes from across the cuisines. Factory not only offers great food, but is a brewery, co-working space and boasts of different genres of live music most days of the week. This place is definitely worth a visit.

For dessert I had a choco lava cake and it was delicious.

I am looking forward to visit Factory again, and this time with my family. I got a couple of things packed back for my family, the non-veg platter was simply amazing, it has chicken tikka, seekh kebab and fish. I also brought back Chilly Chicken Pita Bao, and I loved it. It was spicy and juicy; it’s a perfect snack to just grab on the go.

Drop in to Factory and I am sure you will love it as much as I did. Also follow their page on Facebook for latest updates on their events.

Delectable Foodie Experience at Warehouse Cafe, Sector 29, Gurgaon

I recently visited Warehouse Café in Sector 29, Gurgaon, with some foodie friends. Though the place has been there for sometime now, I really didn’t get a chance to explore it. But now when I finally did, I am a little disappointed that why didn’t I do earlier and also glad that I finally did. The ambience of the place is very warm and chilled out. One can just hang in there with family or friends and enjoy great food.

My foodie experience began with Corn Cheese Rolls and Water Melon Cooler, and I must say that the beginning was very exciting. The corn cheese rolls were delectable and I loved the crispiness outside and mouth-melting corn and cheese on the inside. The watermelon cooler was refreshing.

img_7510

img_7511

Up next was Chipotle Paneer Tikka, a paneer tikka with a twist. The use of chipotle spices suited well with the paneer, and I loved the small dollop of salsa on the top of tikka, it made it taste a bit tangy but interesting.

img_7523

Next we tried the Mumbai Pao and Keema Pao. Somehow the basic vada pao never gels well with me; I still feel that its best-found in streets of Mumbai, but the keema pao was very good. The keema was done to perfection, full of taste and flavours. This is definitely a must try on the menu.

img_7531

img_7542

Next was Murg Malai Tikka, a creamy and mildly spiced chicken preparation that is always my personal favourite. This too should find a place on your plate and you wont regret it one moment.

img_7538

Lamb Kibbe was the next dish that I savored and loved instantly. It was a slightly denser version of a regular shammi kebab but something all meat lovers will appreciate.

img_7560

The clear winner from all starters for me was Dahi Ke Kabab, because they tasted exceptionally well and I have never liked them in the past and that made all the more reason for me to relish these ones. Initially I was even apprehensive to taste, but one bite into it and I was mind blown. This is one dish I am going back for very soon.

img_7543

img_7545

There was another dish, which was a new addition to the menu; it was Buttermilk and Tonic Water Infused Crumbed Chicken. A beautiful fried chicken dish, I am sure it will find its place with a lot of people.

img_7565

By the time, we finished the starters I was too full and main course didn’t really bother me. My friends ordered a selected few dishes and their aroma forced me to try them as well. I started by tasting some Chicken Noodles with Chicken in Black Bean Sauce because I simply can’t resist myself from eating Chinese Food; the aroma just takes over me completely. I also tried Rara Mutton, Paneer Lababdar and Dal Makhani( ok, I now I said my tummy was full, but I also said that I could not resist the aromas, so I tried all of this from my son’s plate). The mutton was tender, juicy and scrumptious, dal was rich and flavorsome, and also as per my son, who is an expert in Dal Makhani, this one certainly got a generous 4.5/5 star rating. I personally loved the paneer lababdar, it was just too good. Rick thick gravy, this is a delight for vegetarians and I am sure all non-vegetarians will love it equally, just like I did.

For drinks I further tried two flavours of Banta, Jaljeera Nimbu Pani and Narangi Anar and both were great.

img_7555

img_7566

To bring a fantastic afternoon to end, brownie with ice cream was served and it really made my day. Fudgy and gooey brownie with hot chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream can never fail as a dessert.

I loved my overall experience at Warehouse Café and I really look forward to going there again with my entire family.
