Kunal Kapoor starrer Veeram to open the first BRICS Film Festival
Veeram is all set to roll out the first ever BRICS Film Festival, actor Kunal Kapoor and director Jayaraj Nair are excited to present their film Veeram as the opening night film. The festival will be held at Siri Fort, New Delhi from September 2nd to 6th 2016.
A spectacular, larger than life magnum opus period drama set in the 13th century Kerala, Veeram resuscitates the real life character made famous through folklore literature and songs. Sharing broad similarities with the rise and fall of Macbeth, the film spans the journey of Chandu (Kunal), a Kalaripayattu warrior who meets a tragic end as an outcome of betrayal.
Leading man Kunal Kapoor shares his director’s fervour, “I’m very excited that we are premiering at the first BRICS Film Festival. We’ve put a lot of effort into making this film and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the audience reacts to it.”
Talking about his film opening the festival, six times National Award winning director Jayaraj says, “I am happy and proud in presenting the first screening of my latest movie Veeram, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth especially in this quadricentennial of the great writer. The BRICS honour makes VEERAM proud of Shakespeare, Kalari, Kunal and the team members”
Producers Chandramohan Pillai and Pardeep Rajan from Chandrakal Arts says, “Veeram reflects our heritage story which is similar to Macbeth , even today it is very much popular in Kerala by means of folklore or contained in a ballad.
Veeram will be releasing pan India later this year and has been shot in three different languages – Hindi, English and Malayalam with plans to further dub it in Tamil and Telugu.
