Not Just Paranthas… Seriously.. its not just about paranthas…!!

We Indians remain Indians at heart no matter where we live or what we do, and some places just reflect this emotion perfectly. And especially when it comes to food, we end up choosing Indian cuisine over and over again even after exploring and relishing other cuisines off and on. I mean who can do without a butter chicken and paranthas, no amount of sushis, pastas, burgers and noodles take place of our very own food, and trust me Not Just Paranthas is just about that. The place is Indian all through, its so Indian, that they don’t have forks and they encourage using hands to eat food, I mean you can be your nasty self here, the same person who relishes dal chawal with hands at home, can relish tearing away paranthas with hands and dip them in curd and slurp them away!

I have been to this place long ago and was quite a regular then, as my office was very near to it, but then as I left my office and moved on, I somehow did not go to this place also since years and just recently after approx 3-4 years I went again and was so happy that they have held on to their quality of food well, its still as good as it was.

In fact the ambience is much more refined now and they also have live music performances which add more to the charm. So you will surely enjoy some retro bollywood music as you relish the food.

Now coming to food, we ordered Cheezy Chooza and NJP Special Mutton Seekh as non-veg starters and Dahi Ke Kebab and Galoti Kebab with Varki Parantha for veg starters. Must say that all four dishes were awesome. The Cheezy Chooza is for sure a dish that you must try. A beautifully done chicken tikka loaded or rather wrapped in cheese, it was delicious. Mutton Seekh was nice and tender. Dahi Ke Kebab is again a delicacy you must try here, they weren’t the usual type, in fact they were very different and really nice. Though they were slightly sweetish in taste, I liked them for their difference. The Rajma Galotis were nice too.

These starters really were very heavy and we were already feeling so full, but how can one not have a parantha when at NOT JUST PARANTHAS 🙂

So we ordered a Chur Chur Chicken Do Pyaza Parantha and Mughlai Pocket Parantha along with some Dal Makhani. Uff, the Chur Chur Chicken Parantha was mind glowingly delicious, you cannot ignore it and if you are a Punjabi, you will love it even more because its drizzled with the makhani gravy on top. Simply yummylicious.

The Pocket Parantha was very different in comparison yet equally delicious and one can try a lot of variety as per taste and choice. Actually thats with every kind of parantha, the menu is so elaborate that at times it leaves you confused. One of the easier ways is to leave yourself in the hands of their ever hospitable staff and they will guide you to the best of their dishes. Don’t forget to enjoy some Kullad Lassi and Chaach along with your paranthas, they are almost mandatory 😉

Coming to the star dish of the evening, it was the dessert, the Meetha Parantha, its heavenly, its delicious, its outstanding. You cannot cannot miss this one. Ask the staff for their special meetha parantha and they will serve you just right.

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this place again and now look forward to being a regular again, and for a family like mine who craves Indian food and good music, this is just the place to be.

New Summer Menu at the Civil House, Khan Market

A place that is bustling with people on a weekday afternoon, speaks volume about its popularity anyway and trust me when I stepped into Civil House around 1PM on a weekday, I was taken by a surprise with so much of crowd.

They are in process of launching a summer special menu and I settled down to explore the same with some of my foodie friends. We tried the following dishes from the new menu:

Stuffed Mushrooms with Quinoa Salad with Cheddar- a beautiful preparation, the crunchy quinoa filling in the mushrooms, made them taste so different and nice and topped with cheese, this dish definitely needs a place in their permanent menu.

Crispy Fried Quinoa Cake with Hot & Spicy Tomato Dip- I think the more I try quinoa is different avatars, the more I fall in love with it. Its healthy for sure and its so adaptive that one can really play with flavours and spices to make it taste different each time This fried quinoa cutlet was extremely delicious and I loved it.

Harissa Marinated Chicken with Root Vegetables and Salad- The glaze on top of the chicken is reason enough to make your mouth water and it tastes as awesome as it looks. This surely is a must try. For me it was one of the best dishes of my lunch that day.

Vegetable Timbale- A very authentic French dish, this had mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese in creamed tomato sauce wrapped in layers of green and yellow zucchini. Taking a full bite of it gives you foodie experience that you cant afford to miss.

Homemade Spinach and Broccoli Fettuccini with Bell Pepper Cream Sauce- This dish is definitely a must try and you just cant miss it. The green coloured spinach fettuccini not just looked amazing but tasted amazing too and the bell pepper cream sauce enhanced the taste so much, that its worth drooling.

Raw mango Risotto with Pine Nuts- Truly a summer special, the taste of raw mango chunks mixed with Risotto is an innovative and delectable dish and highly recommended. Its an outstanding combination of flavours.

Homemade Chilli Linguini with Minced Lamb- This was another delectable preparation, though after trying the other dishes from new menu, my expectation of innovation was raised and hence found this dish as a regular one, but no compromise taste wise, the taste and flavours were more than perfect.

Quinoa and Fresh Avocado Burger- A delightful preparation and surely a must try, I can easily say that one of the best burger that I have eaten in recent times.

From the existing menu I tried another two dishes which were awesome, and I regret not trying them earlier.

Beetroot, Feta and Walnuty Burger with Homemade Hummus, trust me when I say you would have not eaten anything like this before, because the beetroot cutlet is just marvellous. It looks appetising and tempting and tastes equally good. I could have gorged on and on, it was so delicious.

Pan Seared Sea Bass, Mixed Greens Risotto with Fennel Butter, another winner dish and words cant really explain this entire foodie experience. Each and every dish was commendable and one really needs to visit this place soon and try them all.

For desserts we tried the Vanilla Panacotta, Orange and Pink Pepper Corn Gastrique and OMG, this was an out of the world experience, I mean seriously, such a summery and refreshing dish that you must must try it out. I have never been fond of Panacottas but this truly changed my mind forever. This was one indulgence that I cant get over and I am going to go after this one every now and then. There was Dark Chocolate Fondant with Ice Cream as well, but for me the Panacotta’s taste lingered on.

As part of the summer menu, there are some amazing drinks too on the offer and the best part about these drinks is that they do not contain any added sugar or artificial flavours, thus making them a healthy option too.

Avocado and Chocolate Smoothie, Guava Mary, Orange Cinnamon Ice Tea, Strawberry Coconut Mojito, Green Vegetable Juice(spinach, brocolli, apple), Pineapple Strawberry Smoothie, Oatmeal and Almond Milk Smoothie(vegan) and Homemade Ginger Ale . Out of these Avocado and Chocolate Smoothie was awesome, and the taste was simply unmatchable. Next I loved the Green Vegetable Juice, which was so so refreshing and is perfect for summers. The other drinks were good too and I am sure will be loved by all.

[easy-image-collage id=5923]

This summer menu at Civil House is available from 1st April onwards and this is one thing that you should definitely be trying this summer, because even I didn’t know that summers could be so cool.

A delightful gastronomic experience @Gastronomica Kitchen & Bar

Culinary journeys across places always interests me and when something turns up near to home, its even wonderful. I recently headed out to this amazing place Gastronomica Kitchen & Bar tucked away in the ever hustling bustling GK 1, M Block Market.

The place has a very vibrant appeal to it and yet is cozy and warm. The staff is extremely hospitable and completely aware of their own brand, their recommendations and knowledge impresses you.

[easy-image-collage id=5196]

To begin with we ordered, Quinoa Bhel, Ratatouille Cigars, Mascarpone Chicken and A+A+A Pizza. The Quinoa Bhel was outstanding, Quinoa which has risen sharply in recent years is considered a very healthy and wheat-free alternative, which is a great resource of protein, fibre and iron. But the moment we thing of healthy things, we assume that the taste will be compromised, but this treatment of Quinoa where in for not even one moment you realise that you are eating something different, the way the Bhel taste was infused using Quinoa was remarkable. I simply loved it and for me it was one of the best dishes of the evening.

Ratatouille Cigars were good too, but may be because the Quinoa Bhel still had a lingering taste, I could not appreciate them much and went on to munch some more bhel. The A+A+A Pizza was really nice, very unusual topping of green apples, apples and pineapple, this one will surely delight your taste buds.

The Mascarpone Chicken was another highlight of the evening, I simply could not resist this wonderful dish. Loaded with cream and cheese, this was an orgasmic experience, it just melts in your mouth. Worth drooling over and over again, don’t miss it.

Moving on, we tried Wasabi Fish Cake, Chicken Sliders, Bagels and Pizza Pazza. I am not a Wasabi fan and hence did not like the fish cakes much, as I find the wasabi flavour too strong.

The Chicken Sliders were good, juicy and tender chicken cutlets in small soft buns served with potatoes, it made for a wholesome dish.

Pizza Pazza was again a delightful pizza with chicken topping, thin crust and well done. Bagels though on a sweeter side, because they had a filling of apples, were nice and unusual.

Coming to the main course, we ordered Cottage Cheese Steak and Chicken Milanese. The cottage cheese steak was just about ok, nothing too great but nothing bad either. Chicken Milanese, a spaghetti with two big chunks of chicken in a red sauce was bit spicy but delectable. I simply loved indulging in it and surely makes for an impressive main course.

Beetroot’s Halwa and An Evening in Jaipur comprised of our desserts for the evening. The beetroot halwa was good, but something that needs a taste development, might not be likeable in one go. An evening in Jaipur were basically Malpuas dipped in a sugary syrup, they were crisp and nice, but too sweet for my liking.

They have a wide and a very unusual selection of drinks and cocktails especially. Very presentable and different flavours infused together always make for a surprise. Recommended- Charcoal Martini, Paan Mojito, Bubblegum, and Tiramisu Margarita.

Overall I had a very pleasant experience at Gastronomica and I really look forward to a visit again. The ambience, the food, the drinks, everything was great.

Savoured Authentic Indian Food at Chawla’s 2

Enjoying authentic Indian/Mughlai food is always a delight, and recently we had one such enjoyable evening at Chawla’s 2 savouring some Indian delicacies from their menu.

Chawla’s 2 is an extremely popular chain of restaurants having about 8 outlets in Delhi NCR and is expanding its presence with more outlets in the pipeline.

The ambience is like a mix of fine dining and casual dining restaurant, perfect for cosy family outings or even a chilled out evening with friends.

To begin with we ordered Murg Lehsuni Tikka, and Murg Malai Tikka, though they looked identical, but thankfully tasted evidently different. The Lehsuni Tikka had a very prominent garlic flavour which I loved, the Malai Tikka on the other hand was very soft and tender with a creamy texture.

For the main course we relished Bhuna Meat and Dal Makhani. The Bhuna Meat was exceptionally tasty, very well prepared and perfectly spiced. This should definitely be a must try. Dal Makhani is a favourite for my son, and he has become an expert in recommending best Dal Makhani across Delhi NCR. He rated this Dal Makhani a generous 8/10. It was creamy and flavoursome.

We really enjoyed our awesome dinner at Chawla’s 2 and I am sure if you have not tried yet, you should. You won’t be disappointed.

Cafe Gatherings-Restaurant Review

Cafe Gatherings is a cosy little join tucked away in the Super Mart 1 of DLF Phase IV, Gurgaon. Space is a constrain at this place, but for a small group or a cosy couple outing, its just perfect. I recently visited this place and found it really amusing.

For me its a small intimate Dine-in Eatery.
Though short on seating capacity the place exudes great warmth and cosy ambience giving you a very comfortable feel and the food too is great.
We started with the Peri Peri Chicken which was really done to perfection with the right blend of spices.

The Fish Fingers was another delicacy well done, crisp on the out and really soft inside, really a mouthwatering dish.

The Chicken Morsels as the name suggests were just that very lovingly done by the chef. Real juicy morsels of chicken with a very distinctive taste.

Pasta Arabiatta and Spanish Cannelloni were the pick of the dishes. Truly Delectable!!!!! I mean the taste of the Spanish Cannelloni still lingers in my mouth, it was so good.

For the mains we tried the Thai Curry & Rice, another delicious preparation perfectly done.

I enjoyed myself thoroughly at Cafe Gatherings and you must give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Truly a great gastronomic experience.

New Menu Launch at The Grill Mill, Cyber Hub

The Grill Mill at Cyber Hub recently launched a new menu with few more dishes finding their way in the existing menu. I was invited to witness the same by Blue Beans Foodies Meetups. The place was bustling with people and it was a chance to meet up fellow foodies as well. There were about 14 dishes included in the menu, though all were starters and just about 2 desserts. There were no mains.

The dishes that I tried were:

Water Melon with Danish Feta & Green Black Olive Dust- The water melon with feta cheese and olive dust was really refreshing. Also the vibes around the place overall felt very festive and this dish in particular looked very Christmasy to me, because of the colours Red, White and Green.

Mint Paneer Walnut Ki Tikki- This was nice and crispy on the outside and extremely tender on the inside, but somehow I could not relate it to the fact that it was made of paneer. I could not taste paneer at all, but it was nice.

Mushroom Crostini- A toast topped with mushrooms tossed in creamy sauce, these made for a nice snack and definitely a delight for vegetarians. I personally love mushrooms and hence it was a delight for me too.

Sea Food Ceviche with Baby Rocket- This was like a sea-food salad served in a shot glass. It was delectable.

Puff Pita and Chicken Chettinad- I somehow didn’t like this one much. Chettinad chicken placed over a pita puff, it definitely looked tempting but didn’t taste the same. For me the Chettinad chicken didn’t score too well.

Keema Kaleji with Maska Pao- This was was the sure shot winner of the evening. The keema placed on top of a maska pao was delicious. The keema kaleji was perfectly spiced and the maska pao can never fail. What I loved the most about this dish was it being bite sized, I mean one bite that explodes flavours in the mouth. Must try for sure.

For drinks I settled for Fruit Punch & Water Melon Cooler and both were good.

The desserts got too delayed and hence I had to give them a miss. The Chef there also gave a live demo of preparing a pepper sorbet and it was really nice. All I can say is that go and try for yourself, the new items of the menu and I am sure you will like them. Enjoy!

The Masala Trail by Osama Jalali, the amalgamation of street foods of India

Kolkata Ke Puchkas, Bombay Ki Pav Bhaji, Mysore Ka Vada, Chennai Ka Masala Dosa, Delhi Ki Chaat, we all are well aware of these amazing street foods we get across the length and breadth of our country and sometimes we just wait for our travel plans to materialise so that we can savour these delicacies in their whole authenticity. Because sometimes we don’t get everything in our own cities or even if we get most of the times the authentic flavours are missing. But not anymore because Osama Jalali along with Keventers brings The Masala Trail to Delhi which not only boasts of street and regional foods from across regions under one roof but also infuse complete authenticity in the tastes.

To begin with we were served Tower Chaat, layers and layers of yummy dilli ki chaat presented in a tall glass. This one is surely a must have. Pakora Basket and Samosa Chaat were served next. The pakora basket had assorted pakoras and is totally worth it. Crunchy & crispy pakoras with green chutney make for a perfect evening snack. The samosa chaat too was good to taste. Banarasi Tamatar Chaat was something I had not tried before and hence found it very different, but could not acquire the taste for the same.

Moving on from North, we tasted some Western delicacies, Panki, a Gujarati snack prepared with rice flour between banana leaves was served first. Though it tasted nice, but it wasn’t something that I would fancy much otherwise. Dabeli Pav, again a traditional Gujarati dish, it is made with mashed potatoes tossed in masala toppings and sandwiched between grilled pav. This was definitely worth trying and I am sure you will like it. Mumbaiya Pizza Dosa and Chowpaty Pav Bhaji was something we tried next and both of these things were simply outstanding. I have always found a challenge with restaurants serving pav bhaji without the authentic taste, but here it was exactly the way its found in Mumbai and the same was with Pizza Dosa, it reminded me of the famous stalls near Mithibai College in Mumbai that serve these dosas. Even the Vada Pav was as authentic as it could be, retaining the original taste, your search for vada pavs could definitely end here.

Mysore Vada from the south and Kolkata Puchkas from the east were next, the vadas were nice and crispy but because I am not basically fond of South Indian food, I just tried these for namesake. Though the Masala Dosa looked tempting enough. The Kolkata puchkas were a bit of disappointment because I found them to be a little dry, the filling could have been better and even the masala water.

For mains we settled for Amristsari Kulchas and Dal Makhani with Naan. The Amritsari Kulchas were simply amazing, I loved them and one must surely try them. The Dal Makhani was easily one of the best I had eaten in recent times and you cant afford to miss it.

Another thing that you shouldn’t be missing is the Kesari Lassi and Matka Kulfi to complete your meal and it will be one soulful journey of food that you will end up experiencing at this place. I am very sure that this restaurant is going to give all vegetarian restaurants a run for their money, so don’t think much and visit asap.

Ardor 2.1- Restaurant Review

I was recently invited by a blogger friend Vibhav Dwivedi to review this restaurant & bar which has undergone a complete revamping and hence its now called ARDOR 2.1, the next level of food, drinks and even hookah.

The place is spread across two floors, the lower floor being more like a fine dining place and apt for families and bigger groups, also Sheesha is not allowed on this floor. The upper floor that also has a balcony is more like a lounge where one can sit back, relax and chill with friends. This place is ideal for the youngsters. Music, Hookah, Drinks, Awesome Food, what else does one need and hence its just perfect.

For starters we ordered some French Fries, Chicken Caesar Salad, Chatpata Peanuts and Chilly Paneer to begin with. Caesar Salad was nice and crunchy with the lettuce leaves, perfect dressing and big chunks of chicken. Loved the chilly paneer as well, perfectly spiced with big pieces of cottage cheese, this is an all time favourite. And of course needless to say that the peanuts and french fries were good too, though there is hardly any bad that can be done to them. There was a wide variety of mocktails and cocktails to choose from to go along with the array of starters.

Dahi Bhalla Papdi, Non-Veg & Veg Kebab Platter, Crunchy Baby Corn & Mushroom with Dry Chilli, Dragon Chicken, Paneer Tikka, Loaded Nachos, Chilly Chicken Dry and Sesame Fried Fish made for our next set of appetisers. The Crunchy Baby Corn & Mushrooms turned out to be really good. The platters were both good and truly a delight whether for vegetarians or the non-vegetarians. I had more than everything one can ask for. The non-veg platter had an assortment of Ajwaini Machhi Tikka, Tandoori Chicken, Murg Ghazab Ka Seena, Ghosth Seekh Kebab, Murg Tikka Punjabi, Murg Malai Kebab, Murg Reshmi Kebab and Dhaniya Mirch Ka Machhi Tikka.. isn’t that just wow..I mean what more really would you need. Similarly the veg platter had an assortment of Paneer Tikka Ajwaini, Khumb Achari, Bharwa Chutney Wale Aaloo, Hara Bhara Kebab, Dahi Ke Kebab, Tandoori Soya Chaap Punjabi, Paneer Mirch Ke Seekh, Makkai Te Pudine Di Tikki and Tandoori Rani. These platters were sure shot winners and each item of the platter was delectable. All the kebabs and tikkas were very tender and delectable.

Nachos were loaded with beans and salsa and tasted really nice, the sesame fried fish was good too. The dragon chilly chicken was pieces of fried chicken with oodles of black bean sauce. I loved the taste and concept of this dish, but I wish the chicken wasn’t so stretchy. It could surely have been better, because wherever there was less sauce, the chicken appeared too dry to eat. I am sure they can work around this one.Chilly Chicken and Paneer Tikka were great to taste.

Coming to mains, I tried the Pastas, both in Red and White Sauce and they were really done well and I loved it. I also tried the loaded veggie pizza and it too tasted great. I was so full with all this that I had no space to try the Indian mains but going with the overall quality of food I am sure that the Indian main course would be as great and you must definitely try it. I have heard that their Dal Makhani is exceptionally good. For me, I just settled for a Match Kulfi to bring my culinary exploration to a sweet end.

I recommend this place highly and you must give it a try really soon you won’t be disappointed.

Set’z- A Fine Dining Restaurant Where Luxury Meets Affordability!

Class, opulence, elegance and a truly high class ambience is what comes to your mind the moment you enter SET’Z at DLF Emporio Mall and rightly said, what else can you expect from a restaurant being located at the most posh mall of the capital city. So SET’Z not only boasts of world class ambience but also a very carefully chosen global cuisine and it also allows its customers to customize the dishes as per their taste and choice. Recently SET’Z has also come up with an interesting regime of having a ‘customer choice menu’. So in this regime, they include some new dishes every month across different cuisines and ask their customers for a feedback, post evaluation the most popular dishes are retained in the menu and the dishes that don’t seem to connect much with the customers don’t find space in the menu. I really found this concept to be amusing and recently we visited SET’Z to review their Indian menu with addition of some new dishes.

img_1571

img_1560

img_1559

img_1556

To begin with we tried a wide variety of their kebabs in both vegetarian and non vegetarian. Khumb Shikampur, Kathal Mamra and Charoli Kebab were served first. Khumb Shikampur was a mushroom based kebab, soft and delectable. I personally loved the Kathal Mamra, a succulent kebab made out of jackfruit, though a bit spicy, but it was full of taste. But the best was the Charoli Kebab, a truly exquisite kebab made of almonds, very soft and delicious. For the non-vegetarian spread we had Murg Shole, Mulayam Murg Seekh, Set’z Seekh, Macchi Zaitoon Sarson and Raan-E-Set’z and all the dishes were good. Murg Shole was a spicy chicken tikka which was nice but nothing exceptional, the Mulayam Seekh, was basically kakori style chicken seekh, very tender and juicy, the Set’z Seekh was normal mutton seekh kebab, Macchi Zaitoon Sarson was a nicely done fish tikka and the best was the Raan-E-Set’z, a true delicacy that you must try.

img_1505 img_1514

img_1534

img_1542

Out of this spread I personally recommend Kathal Mamra, Charoli Kebab, Mulayam Murg Seekh and Raan-E-Set’z to definitely be a part of their regular menu.

Our next set of dishes from the coastal part of India, south India predominantly. A live crab in a glass box was brought on the table before it went on to become a delicate dish. I don’t eat shell fishes and hence just viewing the live crab was interesting enough for me and I have tasting a skip, though my fellow foodies who tried it, appreciated the preparation really well.

Jumbo Lobsters were next on the table and though they looked tempting enough I had to skip them as well.

img_1626

img_1640

img_1641

img_1675

Then there were Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian dumplings along with a Soya Bean Potato Crispy Fry and both of them were nice.

img_1533

img_1609

img_1630

By the time we tried all these starters along with a few drinks, I was too full to try the main course, but I just thought of tasting them so that I can share with all my lovely readers on what was good and what wasn’t.

[easy-image-collage id=4003]

Rather than serving entire dishes, a special Thali was arranged for us, with smaller portions of main course dishes and a variety of breads. The Thali included both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes like Vegetable Gassi, Telangana Bhindi, Gosht Dalcha, Kothmiri Tawa Chicken and Tomato based Fish Curry… and there are many more options to choose from which satiate your craving for both Indian and Coastal food. In breads also there was a lot to choose from, Lehsuni Dhaniya Lachha Parantha, Zaitoon Cheese Naan, Gilafi Kulcha, Appam, Dal Miss Roti, Methi Roti, Hyderabadi Naan and more.

img_1703

The desserts too were served like a platter with a variety of sweet desires to choose from. It has Coconut Barfi, Custard Apple Payasam, Anjeer Ki Kheer, Thande Gulab Ki Kheer and Khubani Ka Meetha. I personally liked the Anjeer Ki Kheer, Coconut Barfi and Custard Apple Payasam the most out of the lot.

img_1714

I liked the overall concept that one can choose the dishes that we would like to see on the menu regularly. Also the thing that I loved about SET’Z is that it has different kitchens, all live kitchens for different cuisines and one can make changes and customise dishes as per specific taste or requirements.

img_1680

img_1683

This place should definitely be on your list, and trust me its niche and classy in every sense but it will not burn a hole in your pocket. They have very pocket friendly prices and especially on the beverages, so don’t worry be happy and go for it..!!
